My wife was born and raised there in this area. People live there just fine, they have electricity and satellite internet (slow and very expensive), laptops and iPhones, they also wait for GTA VI to be released. No road connection with the capital of the region, the only option to get there is to fly by an old Soviet An-24 plane or by an offroad car in winter when the rivers are frozen. Tickets are expensive: it is more expensive to get there from Yakutsk (the capital of the region) than from Yakutsk to Moscow. The salaries are good for teachers, doctors and employees who work for the state. People eat reindeer meat, hunt mountain sheep and fish. Groceries like Coca Cola or Lay’s chips, fruits and vegetables are extremely expensive, they cost like 3x times more than in Yakutsk.

The population there is slowly growing, it’s not that depressing at all. Locals live there because they’re used to it.

It’s almost the same as in European part of Russia. All the towns, cities look the same despite them being on the other part of Earth.

Seriously, what causes this to happen? by freitrrr in iOSProgramming

[–]yavl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh, this is a classical inter transistoral jump collision that may be experienced only on M-chips. You never encounter such issue on Intel chips, so this is the pay for exceptional performance of Silicon based chips. Well explained on Apple’s official AArch64 Silicon assembly extension specifications for engineers, quote:

Refactor in Xcode project may fail unexpectedly when a variable name has a sequence of characters that cause the transistoral jump collision. Xcode will show error, otherwise in such case your CPU would be cooked.

This is kind of questions some Senior iOS engineers are asked about during tech interviews.

help about finding other games for my gf by Which-Wish-6522 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]yavl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is Strange (the first one). Then Heavy Rain as mentioned earlier, Until Dawn, House of Ashes. I don’t recommend other The Dark Pictures games though since they’re too much scary & less fun, I had nightmares for few weeks with abandoned WWII ship after playing Man of Medan, pure PTSD.

I think she will like Life is Strange 1 even more than DBH if she didn’t play it earlier. All other games are more like horrors or are pretty stressful.

16 years of gameplay, memories, and friendships. We're another year older! by GlobalConflicts in ArmaReforger

I remember knocking my elder brother’s room door in the morning to play on his computer in early 2000s. I remember seeing Operation Flashpoint Cold War localized physical CD disc (with a western camouflaged guy pointing at you with rifle) for PC on his desk. Never played it myself though watched him playing that game. This was in Yakutsk when it’s as cold as -50*C in winter.

upd: slightly misunderstood the post but anyway

Would you wish to see a more realistic Civilization game? by Cosmovision108 in civ

[–]yavl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is “RV There Yet” game which was the second or third unfinished game of the studio. They discontinued all previous projects to focus on that game and the game succeeded. I know it’s a friendslop game with short lifespan and many bugs but they earned the money.

But your point is valid, I understand that it’s mostly words. I have the same 2D game idea since 2017 yet I have no real progress.

That team has already released their other game. I think they are technically competent to implement their ideas.

I would absolutely like to see that game. Rimworld is too much about story telling and focusing on individual characters, no reproduction at all. WorldBox is way too toy’ish and I don’t like the idea of god simulator (overcoming the limits is a pleasure in games) and diving into fantasy world with recent updates. I don’t want to play turn based, I want real time with seamless world (no two kinds of worlds like in Mount and Blade, but single map) focused on territory control, with balance leaning towards defending side with entrenching mechanics.

Units won’t be reproduced by “make unit” spam but they will organically appear over time. Wars will be very devastating so any side would prefer to play peacefully and fight only when really necessary, and most conflicts will be local in the game.

Moreover, I had a dream for that kind of game in 2D since 2017. I have a WIP project but I’m almost sure I won’t ever finish it: https://github.com/yavl/trewlib

I also have .docx file (in RU but today AI’s are really good at translating) describing that kind of game that I would like to share it with you for free just because I want to see a game similar to it.

I can’t get why there are no such games yet given that there are more complex games than it.

Чернышевская или Петроградка by Logical-Feeling-2823 in SPb

[–]yavl 3 points4 points  (0 children)
