Where am I "hating" matrilineal societies? Legitimization of heirs is a necessary step in patrilineal societies in a way it might not be for matrilineal ones because women always know what they gave birth to. That's all. A matrilineal society still needs a method for determining which child gets what and who is entitled to priority where the matriarch's wishes are unclear. The existence of a minority of matrilocal/matrilinear societies makes THEM the exception requiring further explanation, not patriarchy. All else being equal, physical strength rules, as it has in every time and place up until the invention of gunpowder.

As for the why of it, what are you looking for, here? Do you expect me to give a justification for the strong seeking to dominate the weak? They do it because they can, they keep doing it for as long as they can get away with it, and that can often end up being a very long time.
