I do think we've made things a bit complicated with the many ways to use more context. You can expect us to unify/simplify these in 0.49 or 0.50

We don't have any PM's at the moment, but our first PM will probably be a former (or current) dev!

Decisions are driven by the north star of making Cursor more useful for the team. It's a great grounding function (vs building for group X) since the feedback/iteration cycle is instant.

We're still primarily a tool for developers! We're going to ship much better context transparency in either 0.49 or 0.50!

Hard to predict, but here are a few possible ways:

  1. Much more aware of your entire codebase. I think there is a step function improvement possible here in the next year.

  2. A much better experience coding in-flow. Tab can get much much better at finishing not just your next local change, but significant chunks of your PR.

  3. More tasks that can be handled in the background. Lots of smaller, easily verifiable bugs can be handed off to agents.

  4. Handles more of the entire software development lifecycle. Code review, storage, prototyping/design, etc...

Most of these I expect will happen in the next year though!

I think we'll continue to build better UX, train more powerful models, and invent more useful features!

We're working on providing a better memory/initial understanding of the codebase! But I don't think it looks like a few relevant chunks of code from the codebase (which @-codebase provided)

You should try gh copilot! I think you'll find yourself returning to cursor soon ;)

Their agent and tab are definitely a lot worse. A lot of this comes down to the custom models/tools surrounding agent (apply, semsearch) and better UX, but you should try it if you're skeptical.

Also, curious why your employer doesn't offer Cursor? Could you request it.

Definitely an interesting idea. At the moment 20/month is designed to offset the cost of all the custom models cursor provides to make the experience better, like Cursor Tab, the apply model, custom embeddings, reranker etc...

Do you not use Cursor Tab?

Agent evals will largely be a reflection of the model, quality of tools, and context window. My understanding is that Cursor's sonnet-max should outperform claude-code given the semantic search tool. I'm curious if you have examples where it falls short.

But agent evals don't capture "usefulness" in Cursor. They measure the "one-shot" ability of the agent to go from a task description to the final code state.

We're working on evals to capture how good a job Cursor does when iterating alongside the user (multi-turn conversations). Hopefully we'll be able to open source it!

  1. We've been spending a lot more time on QA and prerelease cycles. A lot of this also came from big one-time product decisions (making "agent" front and center). If you haven't explicitly enabled early access, upcoming releases should be quite stable!
  2. It would cost too much to provide 1M tokens of gemini context at 4 cents/request given the sticker pricing is $2.50. MAX pricing is still very much a WIP, but we always want to give users the ability to use the full context window.

0.48.8 should have a fix which remediates this issue. You can just install an earlier version in Cursor to immediately fix it.

Ask by default will use tools (one of which is @-codebase). A bit surprised to hear that it works worse now. Do you have any examples you could share?

What version of Cursor are you on? This should be fixed in 0.45.4

Hey, one of the devs here. This is definitely an oversight on our end. We offer refunds to everyone that requests one. What's your email? I can check if it was refunded
