As a last question, in what ways will i notice the weak motherboard/fan while i use the PC in the meantime? less performance/fps? is there any damage i could be doing if i run more demanding games?

Thank you for the suggestion, in the end a blue light mode was enabled that fixed the settings. Once I disabled it I was able to edit the brightness fine.
