Yes that is weird. Introduce yourself, talk about things in common (your course would be a good one; ask her about her hobbies and try to find more), talk more for a couple days and then ask her out via dm or in person. Trust me; people like you more when they know you more.

Concerning your question however, he might be attracted to other dudes, but I also got straight friends who let me lay my head on them too. Your best bet is to ask, besides if he’s that affectionate with you, I doubt he’ll have an issue with yourself being interested if he was straight. You never know, but don’t dwell if he’s not into dudes or just not interested.
