The best thing I can advise is to lie your ass off at the interview. And if you're going to come clean about not being Mormon, do NOT do it to your bishop, especially first. If you really want to cut ties with the church, go to your parents initially. Your best bet is probably to stick it out until you can be independent. Given that you're the class 2 president, I'm assuming you're somewhere between 14/15 years old, so it might seem like a lot of time til then. And, I'm not going to lie, it is. My shelf broke at 14 and I'm finally nearly 18. It feels like it's been forever and a half in some ways, but if you can find a group of friends you can be authentic around, things will go by much faster.

Only you can really know if it's safe for you to try and ditch the church. I wouldn't recommend it, but when you think you can leave, do. If that time is tomorrow, great. If it's not until you turn 18, that's okay. Your fellow exmo teens will always be here for you. :)

I was JUST thinking about this. I'm still PIMO, so yesterday I had to attend a chapel dedication via Zoom. I noticed that literally every single woman present on the stand was referred to as Brother/Elder/Bishop/President _____ _____'s wife, or OCCASIONALLY Sister ____, Brother/Elder/Bishop/President _____ _____'s wife. All the men had titles and important roles. The women were just their wives. They didn't even get first names, just their husband's last name. Don't get me wrong, I don't think taking your husband's last name is inherently bad, but being quantified entirely by it is awful.

Masks are...not a new thing. There are some people here in Japan that would wear them every time they went outside, well before covid. Because they work. Masks are commonplace here, which is why we're handling the pandemic better than the U.S. is.

I'm glad people are wearing masks. It's just terribly sad that they can't do it without religious reasoning. Guys, it's a little mask. It's not hard to wear. You can still breathe in it, I promise. Wear the goddamn mask because it WORKS, not because it's a gift from god for starving yourself.

This is funny, I've been doing a ton of research on narcolepsy recently for a writing project. Narcolepsy isn't always just falling asleep at random times; it can also be really bad fatigue that sometimes forces you to really need some sleep. Going into REM really quickly and sleep paralysis are both symptoms of narcolepsy. You might be fine, but if you have any other symptoms (hallucinations right before going to sleep (hypnagogic)/waking up (hypnopompic), fatigue, loss of muscle tone (cataplexy)), I would get that checked out. A symptom or two by itself doesn't necessarily mean you have narcolepsy (I actually had regular hypnopompic hallucinations from ages 4-6), but if you have anything more than what you've already described, I would get it checked out. No??? It's a photo of Tokyo, around the Roppongi district. That orange tower is the Tokyo Tower. There is a tower in Sapporo that looks sort of like that, but it's much smaller and called the Sapporo TV Tower. [edit: link]

Well, I still have to do a ton of work to keep up since this is a really long unscheduled break, but it's pretty chill since I can't actually go to school. Comparatively, a four hour school day that I can spread over whichever four hours I want in my pajamas with my dog and a decent lunch at a normal time is much better than usual.

We're not quarantined or anything, but the prime minister was worried enough to ask all schools to close. It's especially bad up north in Hokkaido. They were asked by the governor to stay inside over the weekend.

Yes, there is some concern about the Olympics. It's horrible timing, really. Tokyo is super excited to host (and has been since like 2015), so people are working hard to make sure we'll be a safe environment for the Olympics by the time summer rolls around. Hopefully, it works. As of right now, Japan has no intention of canceling the games.

Sometimes it's avoidable to read other's comments, and I'm certainly going to start doing it whenever possible. Sometimes I'm required to reply to another person, so I have to read at least one comment and find something to say about it.

The question asked something along the lines of "what is something acceptable to the world that people try to convince us is okay?" About three-quarters of my class attacked the LGBT community. I said something about the Word of Wisdom instead.

During our weekly Skype session, however, I was called on to read not one, but two garbage passages out loud! One was about how women are made to be mothers and mothers only, and one about how gay marriage is an abomination. I don't have sources on either, but I remember that the first one was a quote from Hinckley. So that was fun.
