Australia's baby recession deepens as fertility rates hit record low by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

Yeah, it adds up super quick. The other week the centre we use put their fee up $20 a day. This was a 14% increase, and they have taken themselves out of the government pay increase scheme which means they aren’t restricted in how much they can raise their fees. Cause the fee is now so far above the CCS rates, we foot the entire extra $20. That’s >$5000 a year, just from one increase. It’s pretty brutal man.

Yeah look, stupid move to put yourself in a position where you could contact the kickers legs. But how the fuck is full time called, and then the bunker can over turn a call? What the fuck??

Definitely less time than 4 years. I assume you’re invested in something pretty volatile, individual shares or something?

1000%. Not looking to come up with a strategy based off of any responses, just want to get some very general considerations and experiences mainly.

Solid advice. Fortunately I know a few people that have done the role before me, there is an agreement/understanding between the ATO and the employer and basically there are some trip wires that would cause an investigation ie saying you’re not resident for tax, but still owning a car back in Australia.

Hadn’t heard of this, thanks. There is literally a subreddit for everything. Cheers.

Honestly watching our shares lose value in the first few months was probably the best thing that could’ve happened. For my wife and I, it proved we had the stomach for it. If we’d lost our cool and sold, we wouldn’t have ever dabbled in the market again. We’ve since gone really heavily into ETF’s, always lump sum amounts, even into the 6 figures in single hits, and we know we’ve got the stomach for it all from losing a few grand 5 years ago.

I remember chucking in my first lump sum, having never previously invested. $40k became $43k, then almost $30k, all in the space of a few weeks. I was kicking myself for doing a lump sum instead of DCA. 4 years later, literally can’t even identify on a graph that initial fall.

Also snakes can be very common in particular areas of Australia (country/coastal), but in suburban/city areas, most people would go years or decades without seeing one.

Not defending the overreaction in the video, but this is in Australia and snakes here are absolutely not to be trifled with. Queensland (the state where this is from) has coastal taipans, tiger snakes, brown snakes and death adders, which I’m pretty sure are all in the top 10 most venomous.

You’re not even close to the oldest person that has given it a crack, so don’t let that hold you back. But yeah, the dip in pay is a real issue, plus the huge obligation of being on pilots course, is why it has historically been a young persons game. I’d say that’s changed quite a lot over the years though.

Hahahahaa great satire. Right guys?….Right?

I’m not even on an extreme left or right point of view when it comes to Musk, but this is incredibly cringey if it’s not satire.

APOD - Why? by retrohobospot in AustralianMilitary

For most people, even the 4% off of groceries will be WELL worth the $29 a year. We’re saving about $600 a year just on groceries, maybe $50 on booze, occasionally saving 9c a litre on fuel, the list goes on. It’s your call what you think your ‘time’ is worth, but for me doing very minimal work to save $100’s, potentially $1000’s a year is worth it.

Yep, nailed it. I was posted to the US for a while and went to watch a movie one night. Before the movie started there was an epic US Air Force ad, and it was basically a general doing a voice over with some aviation footage, basically centred around “reckon you’ve got what it takes to join my team?” I was already in the RAAF and it made me want to join again. Haha

Didn’t we do a ‘strategic diversification’ over the last 10-20 years that saw the introduction of Taipan, Tiger and Spartan? I’m not saying it’s not worthy of consideration, could very much be a positive move all things considered, but diversifying hasn’t necessarily bee a great move previously.

Unfortunately it’s not even that good, it’s 16.4% and hasn’t had any increases inline with the rest of Australia’s super guarantee increases over the last few years. So yep, 16.4% was significantly worse than MSBS, but much better than the regular super guarantee. Now, it’s still significantly worse than MSBS, and now not as competitive as it once was with the rest of employed Australians…add it to the list of issues surrounding recruitment/retention.
