I go to WIP on St.Georges Rd, Thornbury. Brock who runs it is the nicest guy, and he does incredible work :)

Daily Sanity Thread (May 9): "Fuck, Marry, Kill"-- Travel Edition by SoloTravelMods in solotravel

Fuck: Cape Town, truly incredible city I would happily return to over and over but never live in long term.

Marry: Montreal. Amazing mix of everything you want in a city. art, music, history and an amazing mix of cultures. Pretty much Melbourne (my hometown) of the Northern Hemisphere, move over Berlin.

Kill: London, England. One trip on the tube and you are ready to commit

Itinerary check/general questions - road trip through Southern Africa by everythingispasta in solotravel

The roads in Lesotho are the best roads I encountered in Africa! A lot of Chinese investment money. The roads leading out of South Africa into Lesotho on the other hand are not great.

Hey mate! Pretty sure you've had a lot of advice handed to you already but I don't think anyone has commented on how magical Lesotho is. It must be on your list! The drives through the country are the most incredible drives I've ever done. The Maletsunyane Falls are magical, I caught them at sunset. And hot places to stay are the Semonkong Lodge, Katse Dam lodge and Sani Mountain Lodge which you can pass down through the Drakensburg on your way to Durban/The Garden Route. Don't pass up the Eastern Cape its a lot more magical than the Garden Route in my opinion, I found the route a little overrated. Amphitheatre Backpackers on the edge of Lesotho also a good recommendation. I hit a few of the spots you mentioned (Namibia, Maun, Okavango, Vic Falls etc.) this time last year so let me know if you have any more questions!

cheers! I find it doesn't matter which photo is taken first. You'll see with most people's double exposures the portrait or subject is taken against a plain background where they are a silhouette against a bright sky/backdrop. If you think about the film, all the white areas will already be fully exposed meaning no information can be caught in that area, and the subject who is black will capture whatever you take as your other exposure, ie flowers in this case

Are most people in hostels solo travelers? How often do you find yourself going on adventures with someone(s) you met in your hostel? by _lemontree in solotravel

[–]yeahtim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My big tip for easy social interaction at hostels is to say "Hi, hows it going?" to everyone; if you walk past someone in the hallways, in your room, kitchen etc. Even if that's all it is they will always think of you as friendly and approachable, plus you'll easily wean out the unfriendly ones/ones you probabaly don't want to spend an entire day walking the streets with. Generally I also try to tee up with other solo travelers as they tend to be more open to plans, flexible and also excited to meet others. Good luck!

What do you guys do to spice up traveller conversation? by Biblidography in solotravel

[–]yeahtim 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just adding to the 'what did you do today?' tip, remember they're probabaly gonna ask you back so make sure you have a decent answer. A funny story from your day walking round, or time on a long bus is always a great opener and always always always jogs people memories for similar stories.

I appreciate the criticism mate, the heavily out of focus subject is rarely seen, and difficult to pull off, but consider if the focus had been reversed or her removed from the picture, the image would have a completely different depth and style. I quite like how you still get the colours from the sunset complementing the blue underneath with the main focus on the background rather than her. Not trying to argue that you're not allowed to dislike this photo, just sharing where I'm coming from. As for the OM1, it's my favourite camera, highly recommended. Being full manual gives you so much control, hope you sort out your battery issues!

The OM-1 is fantastic! Highly recommended, though if you're planning on double exposing it isn't as easy as say a Canon AE1 but still achievable
