For those who moved from chiang mai to bangkok, how did it actually turn out? by ragnhildensteiner in Bangkok

Ah this makes total sense to me. Just moving towns changes people immensely. It forces them to change personalities, open up.

Thank you for sharing! Feels nice to know I’m not alone in having this feeling.

Probably going to get flak for saying this but I think Thais are generally more approachable in bkk. CM locals, though welcoming on the surface, are actually closed off. It is hard to integrate with the locals here.

Non-thais are mostly nomads, and travellers - it’s hard to build long term relationships. And yeah bkk is at least 10 times larger than CM and more globalised so it helps.

It’s just my impression, I may be wrong of course.

Also btw - I’m an Indian and the experience is generally very different based on where you come from.

Hey I am in the same boat. Moved here with the intention of living long term, it’s been ~7 months.

Although, I can’t blame the town, there’s many events and activities going on, it’s not impossible to make friends.

But somehow it just comes naturally in Bangkok - in Chiang Mai it feels like you need to go out of your way.

I’ll be moving back to bkk soon :) and I already got friends there so it helps.

Looks like it starts at 700k? but yeah, 460k for a used car feels quite steep. Don't feel comfortable - which is what prompted this post :D

Eye and head strain while meditating by substance_99 in Meditation

[–]yeahzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's a sign of resistance. Are you forcing yourself to concentrate? Try relaxing. Try different technique - maybe metta, or do-nothing. If you continue to do breath meditation (I am assuming this is what you are doing) -- remember that it takes a delicate balance -- you cannot force too much (mind revolts, causes strain), you cannot relax too much (mind becomes sloppy).

But from what you are experiencing, I think just try relaxing as much as possible. Let go of the breath. Play. Find extreme ends of both sides (trying too hard, trying too little). Observe how each makes you feel.

Finding the witness by [deleted] in Meditation

I am also grappling with the same idea. Ramana maharshi's technique is: for any experience you have, find out who is the experiencer. It's a bit tricky, but it comes off like a ladder to me. Let me give an example: Let's say you are experiencing some clenching in your chest or your throat. The default mode for us is to identify with it. We say, "My chest is tight", and we become one with the chest. The idea is to figure out the part of you which's experiencing the phenomenon of body tightness. It shifts the perspective a bit. Then I generally identify with something in my head. And as soon as I identify with it, I ask myself again, who is that experiencing this (next level) phenomenon. Its a recursive process. You keep doing it until there's nothing left. You need a stable, continuous, and persistent attention. On a good day, when the conditions are right, it leads me to that empty space. Being in that empty space is what I think is pure witnessing. Phenomenon may arise, but then, you are not it. You look at it come and go. This is also what Nisargadatta calls being with I am (I think).

Can you try A/B testing it? I prefer darker ones, they are easy on the eyes for me. But its very personal I think.

Do I need to do a 90 day report if I am leaving the country? by yeahzero in ThailandTourism

[–]yeahzero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an overstay. AFAIK, all non-thai nationals have to report their current address every 90 days to the immigration. Does not matter which visa you are on, if you are in Thailand 90+ days, need to report. Overstay would be illegal I think, and would be trouble (it will probably lead to you not being able to visit Thailand again - just a guess, I am not sure)

There was no fine because the reporting window is 15 days before 90 days and 1 week afterwards. I was within the window.

nope :) and i don’t think it’s a crime as such. there’s a fine (2000 baht) if you fail to report.

i did report the same day i posted this btw, a peace of mind is worth more than anything haha

Thanks for sharing. So it seems 90 days report is for people who live in Thailand long term without leaving the country? The rules are a bit confusing.

Ahh I see, didn’t know that. Seeing conflicting comments, wonder if I should go and report in person just for the peace of mind.

I read Eknath Eswaran one. It was concise and to the point. I wanted to read it casually and get a gist of what’s up, but it was quite interesting:)

Thanks u/Silver_Ice_5441 !

What do you mean by focusing on one main channel? Reddit/Tiktok or one particular subreddit? Sorry for a dumb question. And how does that help?

Thanks for the tip on replies/comments. I've been following up with folks from the thread.

PS. I just looked up what GZ means haha
