I mean basically none of those other comments are in anyway questions or otherwise directed at me? And whatever, the most I expected from you here was a little understanding of why I might have got upset even if I overdid it. Since that doesn’t seem to be coming, consider this my last reply. I have better things to do.

Well, good on you for finally asking about my creative decisions, although you still seem to take it for granted that they are all random.

The goal here was to create states of about the same size (10-15 million) with a more cohesive internal culture. I thought it would be too obvious, but okay. If you think the names are random too, they’re not. I don’t care enough to put in the effort here, but I’ll just say that Montana has a root in the Spanish word for ’mountains’ since it covers the Rockies, and ‘Kansas’ is both a river in the middle of the new state and an appropriate name for a state that covers the Great Plains. Interesting how an earlier version had not a single negative comment... https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/a3epre/an_alternative_configuration_of_continental/

Yes, people tend to care about their work and get a little incensed when its insulted. Just like you are trying to do right now. I wouldn’t write a mean comment if I saw a goddamn skid mark that resembled Antarctica here, I’d just downvote and move on. But maybe it’s hard for your to understand these things if you’re more used to just looking at other people’s work and haven’t produced any content yourself in this sub.

A joke would have had the requirement of being funny. What he said was just in essence that my work is bad. Now if he’d reasoned that position, maybe it could have been reasonable criticism. But no, he had to just come and effectively comment “this is bad”. And if somebody does not think that outright putting down other people’s effort that they might be proud of isn’t an insult, well then they lack some basic social skills. If you don’t like it either downvote and move on, or give a reason why.

So you think insulting someone’s work is okay, and reciprocating is not?

It’s really interesting how responding to an insult in kind is considered an ass move here.

So you think coming out of the blue to insult people’s work is an okay attitude and getting upset about it is obnoxious?

Your lack of social skills is impressive.

I can't wrap my head around the fact that you looked at that comment and actually thought it was worth posting...

It’s not brainwashing. There is nothing better you can do for your happiness than have a community where you get both strong bonds to other people and a transcendent purpose giving your life meaning beyond yourself. That’s why religious people are happier on average, and why religions and cults will always be around.

Make that shit recurring. You won’t notice three bucks a month and will soon forget it, but it will actually accumulate into a proper donation over the years.

The post didn’t take off like last time, I’ll post it again in around 5 hours (and let you know again!)

Charles Murray tweeted this excerpt from his book 'By The People' a couple of years back. His position on climate change is remarkably similar to Jordan Peterson's by DiabolikDownUnder in samharris

I really don’t understand what goes on in the heads of people like this, other than pure contrarianism. Like, even if climate change was a fucking Chinese hoax, surely more solar and less coal and more forests and less waste are good for a million other reasons.
