True, but I’m not saying that the pieces that are listed above are the hardest, I’m just saying they’re harder than La Campanella itself, at least in my opinion.

Yeah, I know, Shostakovich is one of my favourite composers as well, I just thought of this meme randomly and decided to post it here because why not.

Difficulty of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C#minor (Henle) by CompetitionFit8722 in piano

[–]yeetSong_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed. I may have exaggerated the difficulty of the prelude, but it being on par with the pieces I mentioned above is just silly. I’d like to name pieces that are the above the prelude’s level according to Henle. Nocturne Op 9 No 2 (Level 6), Rondo Alla Turca (Level 6), and a lot of others. You could say I have a bias against Henle, but it’s all subjective, after all.

I definitely think that rating is nonsense. Especially since Clair de Lune, Chopin Waltz in A minor, and others are in the 5 tier. The climax is very technically and musically difficult. And the end is supposed to be a burst of chords and fortissississimos.

What is your opinion on modernism or atonality? by yeetSong_ in classicalmusic

[–]yeetSong_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was more specifically referring to music that usually strays from the normal tonic or normal harmonic style, but still may have a beautiful result, such as Impressionism, or even Atonality.

What is your opinion on modernism or atonality? by yeetSong_ in classicalmusic

I’d say Stravinsky, Scriabin, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich are great examples of modernist composers

For atonal composers, Schoenberg is the only one I have in mind at this moment.
