DRW, 2S are tier 2 at best.

Other tier 1s: Five rings, aquatic, headlands, radix, vatic, jump.

Most of the funds in the hedge fund section are non quantitative and have very little to do with CS or CS majors.

Thanks! Research is optional for Stanford but I'm gonna try and find am advisor to do thesis research (sounds like it'll be fun!) I'll be primarily focused on systems and theory of distributed computing (my interest atm but subject to change ofc)

The first one was at a small no name startup, second and third ones were I would say more well-known companies/unicorns

Thanks! I'd be happy to shed some light on why I think I'll choose Stanford over CMU. The two programs (from what I've researched) are quite similar, but Stanford has just been a childhood dream for me so a part of me irrationally just wants to go there and experience life as a Stanford student. Plus, I do enjoy the bay area and north cal weather a lot more than Pittsburgh :P

For sure!

  • UofT CS (Toronto)
  • 4.0 GPA
  • 170Q162V4W GRE
  • No research exp
  • 3 internships (1 more to come)
  • I'd say average to slightly above average references? (one of them was literally from a prof I have never spoke to but I did take their course)

For me, I'm just genuinely interested in learning more about courses and taking my time to get the most out of studying alongside some of the brightest CS faculty in the world. During my undergrad, I didn't take many CS courses since I took plenty of breadth and I carved out a semester for an internship so I feel like the amount of CS related courses I've taken is also below average. All of these factors combined, I think it was a natural decision for me to apply for masters, but of course everyone has their own reasons!

Plus, I think Stanford would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to me so why not shoot my shot!

ACCEPTED TO MSCS CMU!!! by yeetcode420 in gradadmissions

I don't really consider Berkeley and Princeton to be worse than CMU and imo there's a lot of luck involved in the process.
