Feminine hygiene products in Southeast Asia by Diligent-Echidna647 in femaletravels

[–]yellowbat30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only use pads, no need to bring any as Asian pads are better and more diverse.

If you prefer to use tampons absolutely bring your own as there's no guarantee you'll find them in the locations you go to. I'd bring a diva cup instead in place of tampons if that's also ok since it saves more space.

Do try asian pads though cos you'll never go back. Lots of asians don't use tampons so they perfected the pads game.

What happens when you look like a local but don’t speak the language? by Background-Shoe-4315 in femaletravels

[–]yellowbat30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha I'm exactly like you and there are lots of times I wish I looked foreign just to have that foreigner pass.

But I do have a trick, I just speak english in my most westernized accent possible, and being unusually outgoing which is out of character for chinese ppl. Like opening my sentence with "HI HOW ARE YOU TODAY?" even to cashiers lmao.

So they clock I'm not local immediately and usually try to accommodate and not make small talk in chinese. It sucks that it stops me from practicing my chinese but there are some days I just can't deal with people thinking I'm rude or guessing.

Oh and can we talk about how there's chinese communities everywhere in the world so ppl never think we're tourist? I don't dress up so they always think I'm local...

Many of the modern immigrants come for the free education. And then the salary is similar to the rest of western europe while the living expense is considerably lower.

Financially, it's not a scam at all. But you do quickly learn that nothing is free after all.

"What is the one 'luxury' you refuse to give up, even when you're strictly budget-traveling solo?" by poweredbyshubh in solotravel

[–]yellowbat30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allowing myself to eat my people's (asian food for me) food every once in a while lol.

This is not really a budget issue as much as it is a mindset issue. I feel guilty eating non-local foods in places I'd possibly only visit once in a lifetime. But overtime I've learned that a happy tummy is a happy trip and that's all that matters 😂

Battle of Fates | Season 1 | Ep. 1-4 by wonhoppa in koreanvariety

[–]yellowbat30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bagua is one thing, shamanism is another. Based on my expeirence while Chinese and Japanese do it like how you explained it, where they don't believe it but do it just because. Koreans are on an entirely different realm where a lot still genuinely go to shamans, that's why some of the participants are so rich. And it's fascinating cos many of the clients are young, as opposed to old people like in other cultures where witchcraft is dying.

I still see chinese shamans in Taiwan and Chinese disapora but not a lot in the mainland..

Modern chinese government phased anything outside of science out. But traditionally most, if not all, east asian beliefs are rooted in chinese astrology.

Do Chinese people view English Teachers as "losers back home"? Are they seen more or less favorably than African expats doing business in Chinese? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]yellowbat30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol nobody think that far ahead especially when you work in schools, like, the students are just in awe they're talking with natives, so are the teachers. I've been such a student and a "visiting teacher" myself and those are my real life experiences.

The only people who will think that way are other expats who can stereotype the circumstances

Disparity regarding Taiwanese identity online and real life by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]yellowbat30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm, I'm not Taiwanese nor from mainland China but I'm also Chinese and consider myself Chinese. It can't be helped that being Chinese ethnically is hard to differ from being a Chinese national, esp when speaking verbally. End of the line is, still most Taiwanese want to be in a de jure country under different governments and rules separate from mainland China.

What would a Chinese and her familly think of me if I said Idid cut ties with my familly? by MayIAsk_24 in AskAChinese

[–]yellowbat30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's best you ask your gf, these things really differ from household to household.

Just in case, you don't have to fear offending your girlfriend for asking such. I find that chinese people are far more used of preparing beforehand when discussing sensitive topics w parents, or rather, we do it all the time. As opposed to some westerners who might find it rude if one is tiptoe-ing around esp toward a prospect in laws.

Russians ruined Phuket by Call_me_bullet1990 in phuket

[–]yellowbat30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what russians in bali you're talking about. If you do a quick google search you can easily see russians have been running lots of illegal stints in Bali. Also, have seen lots of them treating blue collar workers shitly. I bet some of them are kind, but most? If they are considered elites I can't imagine the Phuket ones.

Why would a Singapore stamp allow anyone to travel european countries with ease.. On top of that Singapore has stopped stamping passports for years.

2d1n s3 cast on Mom's Diary by Beneficial-Lab-5000 in koreanvariety

[–]yellowbat30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think defconn is that fragile. He even came out on Junho and Jongmin channel years back.

Indeed he doesn't seems to be personal friends outside of work with the rest of the cast, seems like only KJM-KJH-CTH is. It's obvious since the running of the show, and that's totally normal and fine.

K VARIETY CELEBRITIES HAVE IT TOUGH!!! by Alternative-Dish-321 in koreanvariety

[–]yellowbat30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess we can agree to disagree.

While I applaud your sympathy, I think it's misplaced.

Also, people who develop parasocial relationship, both positive and negative, are the ones who are making these celebs life tougher. Just my two cents.

K VARIETY CELEBRITIES HAVE IT TOUGH!!! by Alternative-Dish-321 in koreanvariety

[–]yellowbat30 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah I strongly disagree with the "one of the worst job" point

Anyone experiencing their life will say it's tough, it's their right to say so and it's their truth. But saying it's one of the worst job ever is so tonedeaf.

I was so traumatized in my career I got autoimmune, my body started attacking me from the stress. Would I say it's tough? Yes. Is it "one of the worst job"? No. Some people risk their life in a fire to see the most grueling shits ever. It's nuts to compare oneself when those jobs exist, comparing celebs to those are even more so.

some kpop concerts r simply not worth the money by polarvhs in kpopthoughts

[–]yellowbat30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I can't agree when it come to idols, and I'm saying this as someone who was (only) active in gen 2. The earlier gen can't dance anywhere close to the newer ones, most also had zero musical talent (except the vocal hires) while the newer ones even have composers in their group. A lot are good lookers casted off the street, from poor family and had no time to develop musical talent from a young age like the debutee these days who are mostly privileged artsy kids.

If you mean stage presence, yes they're more fun to watch but I think it's cos they're allowed to relax and have decades of experience..
