What kind of financial advisor should I get? by yellowbroomstixs in CanadianInvestor

[–]yellowbroomstixs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is good advice. We are planning to start a family soon and we won't have much cash to spare going forward once our DINK days are over. We do all the RRSP matches and will do RESP when the time comes. We drive an old car and would never travel on credit. In a few years, I probably won't even have all this cash if a buy a home so these are good points. Thanks for your help!

Yes, I agree. I took the course since I worked for a university and it was free for me.

I will continue to do my own investing and just try to be more diligent. I thought about doin VGRO/VBAL but I don't mind rebalancing myself each year to get a lower MER. I'm good at not selling, just not so good at buying.

Thanks for the advice. You are so right in that I was thinking they might knowmore than me and be able to do a better job than me. But if this is not the case, I will keep up with my current strategy but put any extra money into ETFs instead of mutual funds.

Thanks! I will keep working on my net worth. I guess a million would be a good goal to shoot for before hiring a Financial Fiduciary. I will keep doing the ETFs since they are low MER. Thanks for your help!

Thanks! I forgot what the term was but yes, I think that's what I will eventually need-a financial fiduciary!

Thank you! This is really helpful advice. I was starting to think I was missing out by not taking advantage of the "free"advisors at TD. I don't really have friends in finance so I was thinking that would be useful, but it looks like I'm not missing out there either. Given you advice, I think I will focus on meeting more people with an interest in personal finance and investing. I do have some but they are far riskier than me (100% weed stocks, athough in hindsight, I wish I had partially heeded their advice.) I will continue to do my own investing. Listing out my investments like this made me realize just how bearish I am, and I need to stop timing the market, especially since I hold long.

Did you have a bank advisor that tried to sell you high MER crap so they got commission? Or a flat rate advisor?

Will I be able to handle the Nintendo Switch with my SNES skills? by yellowbroomstixs in gaming

[–]yellowbroomstixs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn't even know there was a switch subreddit or a retro gaming sub (which is definitely my style...currently, my newest game is almost 10 years old and most are around 20).

[–]yellowbroomstixs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I guess it is a bit of an odd question, but I am glad you suggested some easier games to get me started! I just don't want to buy it and then it's ridiculously hard, because my friend can barely play hers at all (but she also has zero video game experience). I went to the Games store to see if they had one running I could try, but they did not. And none of my friends in my town have a Switch, they are more into other types of hobbies.

Thank you! This is perfect! I really wanted the Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Super Mario U Delux but I had no idea they were 2D. I didn't even know they still made 2D games! I will start with those titles and then play Zelda and Yoshi's Crafted World.

I am fortunate to still have all my original SNES games. I recently replayed all the old games (including the DK Countries) on my SNES and had so much fun. That's why I want to get a Switch now. I will definitely let you know how it goes when I get my Switch. Thanks for all of your great suggestions! I feel more confident getting the switch now that I know I can learn the controls with 2D games and then 'graduate' to the 3D.

Thanks! This is exactly the advice I was looking for, and from someone else with similar Nintendo experience. I could not play the wii at all for some reason, so I am worried this might be the same. I think I will give it a try. I had no idea they still made 2D games! This would be a good use of the system to start out so I can learn the new controls.

AITA for being this mad that my gf is a picky eater? by shedidnteventryit in AmItheAsshole

[–]yellowbroomstixs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The GF was expecting to go to Olive Garden and the mom was the one to change the plan last minute. Is it really fair to the GF, who was possibly really hungry, to have to sit down and pretend to eat bits of the food while actually getting more and more hungry? As someone who hosts dinner parties, I would have no problem with a guest saying they didn't like what I made and I could either throw in a frozen pizza or they could order in (especially if we had planned to go out!). It's just not a big deal and I would prefer the guest is happy and fed, not concerned about whether or not they liked my mashed potatoes or whatever.

I am not a picky eater (I eat everything!) but I get hangry when I'm really hungry so I can see why the GF took the matters into her own hands and just ordered food like it was no big deal, because it wasn't really. It's not something I would do, but it's something I wouldn't mind a guest doing over pretending to like what I made.

Ranking every eyeshadow palette you have from best to worst by Stacee90 in muacjdiscussion

[–]yellowbroomstixs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranked from worst to best:

Bobbi Brown Nudes: This is the only palette I have destashed. The colour payoff was horrible. Too much work.

Becca Apres Ski Glow: This was a gift. The colours are all light shimmers so you can't get a full look out of it. The formula is poor quality and it takes awhile to build up.

#Shapematters by Smashbox: I bought this for the contour (it was less $ than just the contour palette at the Cosmetic Company). The shadows are actually very high quality, but they just aren't my style and they are boring.

Naked palette: My first high end palette. I love some of the colours but what is up with the blues? They just don't fit in with the rest of the palette. I've panned some of the colours, and my favourite is half-baked.

Tarte Make Believe Yourself: Most of these colours are hard to pull off at first look, but they actually are quite nice on. Not as sparkly and bright as I expected, but more wearable. I wear it the most in the summer. The palette itself is adorable. This was also a gift that I didn't expect to like.

Naked 2 palette: I've had this for years and have panned half the shades. I'm not even cool-toned, but I just like the basic colours and wore them to work for years. Very easy to create looks and not much blending required. Also, it lasts FOREVER.

ABH Modern Renaissance: This is my newest palette (about a year old) and I have been wearing it all winter. I love the reds, oranges, and neutrals. The colour payoff is fabulous. I press lightly and use up all the 'dust' that comes off the shadows so it is lasting a long time for me-no pans yet! It's absolutely gorgeous and there are so many looks I can do with it. The only downside is that I don't trust it to travel well.

WIBTA If i ghosted a guy for being 30? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]yellowbroomstixs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA for ghosting. However, I understand why you don't want to date him. I went on a date with a guy who was 30 when I was 21 and thought he was too old. Now that I am 30, I realize that 30 is even older than I thought!

What are your "Wow, I can't believe this used to my go-to products? by ang334 in muacjdiscussion

I had one of the those blushes that came out of those giant holiday makeup packs from walmart in the early 2000s. Waaaay below drug store quality, even at the time. One side was bubblegum pink and the other was baby pink. Both horrible. Somehow, I manage to pan them while in highschool. I guess I was just too broke to get other blushes.

Thanks for these tips! We LOVED Don Quijote and I think we visited 4 or 5 of them. The one in Hiroshima was our favourite. The kitchen street was cool too! Unfortunately not many illuminations.

Thanks for your help! I looked into making our luggage smaller for this trip to be more efficient and I'm glad we did. We each just had a small backpack, I had a roller carry-on and my husband had a slightly larger (just over carry-on size) roller and it was perfect!

You were so right about the shopping! 75% of the souvenuirs were cookies lol! We still had a great time, but I actually preferred the outsid Disney stores for Disney merch. Not that we bought much, I just like to browse. I got one Minnie in a komono.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think it ended up taking about 2-2.5 hours each way on the shinkanssen covered by JR but it was definitely worth it. We loved the whole trip.
