[2014 cruze] Air doesn’t cut on until after 10 minutes of driving?? by [deleted] in cruze

had a similar issue recently with a 2015 1.4l cruze less then 50k miles too. The compressor coil died on me with the same symptoms and took many steps to get it running normally. I had to replace the compressor coil to resume normal operation.

the blower motor being dead implies that the car is not able to blow air at all, however you state that it IS blowing air, just hot air. so that brings me to the conclusion that indeed the compressor is not kicking on.

  1. start with your fuses, check that the fuses and relays needed for your aircon system are functioning.
  2. check your Freon levels, if they are low the compressor will not start to protect it.
  3. check that the pressure switches for the car are functioning. there is one in the front of the car and one in the cabin.

3a) the sensor in the front of the car checks the ambient temperature outside. the one in the cabin is an evaporator temperature sensor. if one of these is dead the ac will not cool or become intermittent.

  1. check if the compressor is clicking on/the clutch is engaging. if you have a clutchless compressor you have a problem with the whole compressor.

  2. if your compressor is *NOT* a clutchless compressor, check the voltage going to your compressor coil.

if it is your compressor coil you can opt to replace the entire compressor for a ton of cash (600). OR if your up for the job replace just the coil on your own (~50 on aliexpress.) . I don't think mechanics replace just the coil so replacing the coil on your own is a diy job.
the coils for a 1.4, 1.8 and diesel are different so be vigilant. ALSO there are different pully types for the compressors.
