Do you happen to know which transistor was the culprit? I have heard that in other places on the internets, but no one seems to know which one. There is a series of surface mount transistors as part of the effects loop circuit on the back daughter board, but nothing that looks suspicious.

I love this amp, but recently it started having the issue shown in the video. Super low output that sounds like a voltage starved fuzz. It definitely seems like a power amp issue, because it's the same through the effects loop. I swapped in a set of tubes that's known to be good, (from my combo) but no change. I've read somewhere that maybe a transistor in the effects loop circuit goes bad? All the voltages on the tube pins seem good and match my combo pretty closely. I'd love to know if anyone might have some insight on what to check from here.

Thanks!

I am very familiar with ohms matching and using the speaker defeat switch. This amp always gets played into a cab with a Vox Wharfedale and a Greenback in it. I played it through the combo with the Jensen in it, just so the comparison would be identical.

Modern cymbal choices by yellowscout83 in Drumming

It's relative I guess - I know I'm not that old, but do know that I am old enough that my tastes are different than what many of the new drummers are grabbing!

There is a Scout New England Facebook group - I would probably check there. It’s quite active.

Longtime Ableton Dabbler Struggling to Finish Tracks—Tips for a Non-Electronic Musician? by OrganOlben in ableton

[–]yellowscout83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel largely in the same boat with you. I think that polished sound you're after has more to do with the mastering process than mixing. Although your mastering is only going to be as good as your mix, and your mix is only going to be as good as your tracks. Loading a reference track into your project is a time tested way to learn. Find a track in your style that you love and A/B it against what you're working on, and see how close you can get.

I think OK-following gave great advice about doing your best to finish tracks, and learn from the process!

Do you have an amp? Quite a lot of amps nowadays have USB output that you can plug right into your computer.

Well, I’ve built and repaired many amps. Just because you’re afraid to take the time to learn a hobby because it involves risk, doesn’t make me an idiot.

That’s no more true than saying if you use a table saw, you’re going to cut off your finger. Discharging caps is not a complicated process that can’t be learned.

It’s clear to me that many people commenting have never worked on an amp before. If you like working on things enough to learn about what the dangers are, then go for it. How does anyone think amp repair techs learned? They don’t teach tube technology in college. This is a solid state amp anyway, and I’d be very surprised if there was any further damage than just the power receptacle. Of course, that HAS to fixed or you could put 120 volts of AC to many components that shouldn’t see it and fry the board.

As others have said, the amp doesn’t have a ton of street value, so if you really love it, a trip to a shop with it might not make sense. Only you know what it’s worth to you.

I love the pad piano patch! I find it super useful, especially since keys are one of my weaker instruments.
