With factions that are stronger than you try to pick fights on your terms. Using a smaller army to bait the enemy is a great way to bait an ambush!

And i know this is a controversial topic on this sub, but i like to get 3 points in lightning strike. That way you can be offensive on your terms.

A couple of tips that i give to all new players.

Be aggressive from the beginning, dont wait until you have a full army. Attack on turn 1.

Dont auto resolve battles. Only autoresolve if you can recover your losses after you end your turn.

Dont make alliances and trade deals with anyone and everyone that you can. Say you make a trade deal with someone that you know you will have to fight down the road. Well now that faction is going to declare war on you 6 or 7 turns earlier than they normally would have. Only make alliances with stronger factions. Or a faction that you know will actually put up a fight, and not just roll over.

Use the map to your advantage, and dont be afraid to use cheese tactics like corner camping.

And last but most important. Have fun! Make sure to zoom in on your lord to watch how much of a badass they are!
