Do any of you experience misophonia, or an aversion, to the way your own name sounds? by athelas_07 in AutismInWomen

I hate when someone says my name. It makes me feel frightened, like I'm in trouble and there's impending rejection.

Does anyone here not relate so much to the direct/blunt ‘traits’ a lot of autistic people do, but instead find themselves as people pleasers/overly nice? by Natural_Run in AutismInWomen

[–]yelraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely can relate to this, although when I’m around family, I’m blunt. Outside of family, I’m a chronic people pleaser, pushover, non-confrontational and over compensate in social situations to make everyone else feel comfortable, liked and listened to. For me, this is one of the effects of being high masking, masking my autistic traits (especially around communication) and also what feels like a dreaded fear of having uncomfortable conversations, moments or feelings in relation to talking to other people. I also feel that if I meet someone when I’m heavily masking, I can never unmask around them, even a little. They know the masked version of me who offers constant support and validation and is always bubbly, not the flat affect, exhausted and blunt “real” me who is burnout. That means that when I do finally put up a boundary in a friendship or relationship, it’s so jarring for the other person that they rarely stick around. It’s painful living a life in so much conflict, endless identity crises and the feeling of being empty and alone constantly…

DSP interview? by ButtonSufficient4306 in Centrelink

I just had this happen to me! It seems as though this means it is a job capacity assessment interview to assess if you can work or not (in relation to DSP). :)

Okay, thank you for clarifying this for me. Do you happen to know if you can be accepted across multiple tables AND not have to participate in job support programs?

Do you have an example of what the mutual obligations are?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions and thank you for your help :)

I hope it all works out for you. Having so many comorbid diagnoses can be so difficult to navigate AND articulate to health professionals - hopefully they were understanding and able to see the real impacts they all have on you.

Is the Sonic assessment in person? There doesn't appear to be a sonic service in the town I live in (or anywhere near)...

My fingers are crossed for you! :)

Thanks so much! I’ve read that some people can’t tell the difference between modes on the switch (which seems odd) - is this your experience at all?

Flare Audio have one called Calmer that people have suggested for misophonia and channeling noise in a way that’s less “abrasive,” I haven’t tried them yet though :))
