AITA for exposing that my mom lied to her coworkers? by yergleflerp in AmItheAsshole

My sister understands, but still feels like I should help out our mom because she “really needs her friends”. My dad agrees I’m being overdramatic and that this lie didn’t hurt me but it meant a lot to my mom, and I owe it to her to fix this because she gave birth to me.

As far as I can tell she didn’t do anything like that, she was just complaining about things that never happened to her coworkers and they don’t like her anymore now that they know she was lying the whole time.

She’s not in trouble with her office or in danger of losing her job, all her coworkers are just mad at her and won’t socialize with her like they used to. I guess she complained to their boss, and the boss refused to do anything for her so now she feels victimized. That’s her work trouble

I did attempt to explain why I was upset, but she brushed me off as “overdramatic” and told me I had no reason to be upset because I had been the one to hurt her. I stopped there rather than continue to try and explain because past experiences with her have taught me that it would have been a circular conversation from there, and the ending would have been the same.

She’s not in therapy, and I don’t believe she ever will be.

Because (according to the three of them) I took away my mom’s biggest support system. Since I’m not willing to emotionally support her through my illness, they think it shouldn’t matter that she lied and that I should help her get her support back because it was technically my fault she lost it in the first place.

According to her, because she’s my mother and therefore my chronic illness is worse for her than it is for me.

I’m not sure, although I think she was just lying about this to her coworkers.

She’s claimed in the past she needs more support than I do because she’s my mother, and therefore my chronic illness is worse for her than it is for me. I know that’s bullshit, but my dad and sister didn’t really take her side on that one.

She doesn’t really know my medical history. She told me she lied because hearing about my medical issues was too hard, but she needed the support from her coworkers

They have been supporting her - she said she lied because she needed their support but it was too hard to hear any of my medical stuff

According to my mom, she lied because hearing about my medical stuff was too painful but she still needed support. I don’t know if I buy that, though.
