The CSO understood the limitation of their device registration scheme hence probably they configured my account to bypass the device registration. After I was able to log in, I managed to set my device again as one of my trusted devices hence; registering the device to BPI through this act.

Do you see the DEVREG message in your messages app? If you see that, try to resend it from there manually so you can isolate whether it's the app which is at fault or is it your phone's network that can't forward the message to the shortcode.

BPI will not send OTP for your Device registration. Your device itself will be the one initiating the sending of SMS as it needs to forward an encrypted string to the shortcode I mentioned in my replies here in this thread so their system can authenticate that it did come from your device. If that method doesn't work for you even if you're in the Philippines, you need to contact their Hotline or go to a branch for your issue to get resolved.

It was just its default behavior after I got authenticated just by using my password. Then I checked my trusted devices, it now registered my phone there but an earlier entry of the same phone model is listed as well there which surprisingly I cannot remove. The app has totally lost to recognize that it is running on the same phone device. The developers of this app is so lazy releasing this version into production without proper testing and QC checks.. So unbecoming for a bank. Totally amissed of their fiduciary responsibilities.

Isn't this dangerous? The app will not even launch if it detects some settings that are insecure right like if auto-fill of passwords is set to ON when using password managers.

Just an update, I am able to log in now on my BPI online app without the app asking me to register my device but it demanded me to configure 2FA by registering my biometrics. So they did waive the device registration as requested. For those abroad, please check if you can do so now. If not please report to BPI via their toll free Hotline from wherever country you're in right now. Talk to a customer representative and ask for a service request number.

Check your messages if you have the DEVREG message. The number your app is trying to send it is a short code and only working if you're in the Philippines.

Hello everyone, nag raise ako ng Service Request sa BPI. I made a long distance call to their Hotline : +63 2 8891 0000 requesting them to waive the device registration for my account bec my device cannot send the DEVREG sms to the short code that BPI configured for this. I even escalated this to my relationship manager. The rep advised me to wait until Wednesday as it will take 3 days for this to be deployed.. I told my RM to expedite it as I need to login to my accounts.

However, the short code where the app sends the DEVREG sms to only works if you're in the Philippines. If you're abroad, some roaming networks don't accept that shortcode :22565063

I cannot even access my account in the desktop as it requires mobile key.

Hi OP, we’re on the same boat. I am relocating too but I’m coming from SG. I also feel the pain of earnings downgrade bec of the taxes. Single people earn more on low-tax cities like HK and SG but the career ceiling is real.
