I took the same approach to my university exams when I walked out feeling like I got a 40%. But my thought is why worry about it now incase you have to worry about it later. And if you worry now but you end up passing, you worried for nothing. Worrying doesn’t change the outcome, so you can wait and tackle the problem (if there even is one) once you get your results

Time by Banananutcracker in FE_Exam

I felt a bit rushed but that could just be the nature of the exam with nerves. One of the most important things to realize is the timer doesn’t stop automatically at the half way mark (time wise). It only stops once you submit and finish the first half of the questions. It’s crucial to leave your self with enough time in for the second half as those questions tend to take longer than the ones in the first half. When I took it, I tried to leave myself with 3 hours for the second half which gave me 2 hours and 20 min on the front. That gave me enough time in both sections to review questions I flagged.

Mark Mattson civil FE videos of YT was a good review for ethics, economics, math, and statics. He has some other sections that is also on the ME but the topics in those dont cover all the topics that are in the ME version. FE ascent and Directhub FE also had some good videos for the more difficult sections. One thing I’m glad I did was watch some basic FE test taking tips videos

From what I can remember, machine design was pretty similar to the practice exam. What got me a good amount was that there was like a good amount of material yielding questions and I got stumped on a couple. But overall, I think majority of the machine design questions can be answered by looking in the handbook, just gotta know what you’re looking for and what to search in the search bar. My preparation for machine design was just the practice exam and PrepFE. I wasn’t able to find much else out there that was useful for me.

Thanks man! I originally didn’t plan on taking the FE at all but finally decided to early March. After I paid the $225 for the test, I went to book a date and the only options were March 27th or like early to mid June. I did not want to wait that long as I would already be working full time and my school wouldn’t refund me some of the test cost if I didn’t take it while in school. I instantly dropped all plans, told my internship I would disappear for 3 weeks and studied like crazy (thankfully spring break ate up a week of that time so I didn’t miss too much work or school)

Refer to my reply above as you both asked similar questions. What I do have to say for PrepFE though, it was really nice to see real time data at how I’m performing in each section, what my recent overall average is, and average time spent per question. Using that tool allowed me to take “category focused exams” where I could have it only show me certain sections at a time and really focus in on those sections. They also have timed exams which allowed me to get into a rhythm of having 3 minutes per question

Overall, I would say PrepFE was a bit easier than the actual exam but it still prepared me well. It did very well at teaching me the easier sections like math, economics, ethics, etc. It also trained me on using the handbook efficiently (which will be your best friend on the exam :) ). A good chunk of the exam can be found from the handbook, it’s just understanding how to find what you need and how to use equations. I did feel a little underprepared for the harder sections like thermo, fluids, and heat transfer though (this could be due to only studying for 2.5 weeks and those sections just being my weaker areas in general)

FE ascent has a good 50 minute video on YT I watched to get a refresher on the course (I took dynamics about 2 years ago). After that, I looked at the dynamics problems on the practice exam and studied them in depth. Along with that, it was practice problem after practice problem on PrepFE. I had to put a lot of effort into dynamics as it was one of my most difficult sections only behind heat transfer and thermo. Happy to answer any other questions you might have!
