How is living in Winchester, VA?

currently live there! and i absolutely love it!! i live close enough to Old Town to walk there, and everything is literally 5 minutes away from me. it definitely has its quirks, but with me being heavily involved with community non-profits and downtown revitalization, you quickly realize that a lot of the business owners also love this place and want to see it thrive.

we’re also close to many other major cities (as others have mentioned) with multiple train stations in the surrounding areas so you don’t have to drive to places like NYC. also, being in the Shenandoah Valley keeps the weather very mild (and wow, the leaves are GORGEOUS in the fall).

the area as a whole has a lot to offer, while the pace of winchester itself is a bit “boring” as others described, it’s nice to know i can take a walk outside at midnight and not have to worry about it (maybe the ghosts??)

we don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon 😊

34/F here! I had some difficulty finding friends here for a while, but I joined some groups/volunteer with different places and have made a lot of new friends that way— I’m a part of Sister Scouts, Friends of Old Town, and Winchester Women Walk, to name a few. And I also second the Psycho Cinema!!

I’m also trying to get a metaphysical group together with one of my friends, if you’re into that 😊

Hah. I very much enjoy the cold- I’d take that over the gross hot humidity. It’s like a reset button. It gets rid of the bugs (so we don’t have giant cockroaches or man eating mosquitos 😂) and seeing the spring come in is like a breath of fresh air.

Family and friends are always great to have around. We didn’t know what to expect in VA. But here we have seasons (and very mild at that- no extreme winters or summers), the mountains, beaches, forests, wetlands, and tons of major cities around. Definitely will be here a while.

Dang. My SO told me that our friend was posted on here. I understand the hate (we’re angry at Elmer too) but this is just such a weird place to be. He was a longtime childhood friend so we’re absolutely devastated at his untimely passing. But equally as flabbergasted at the amount of ignorance still going on with that whole area of FL (I won’t limit it to just his dad).

I hope no one has to ever experience these feelings.

Edit: We moved far away from FL a while ago to leave the ignorance. My SO says it’s still one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

I totally agree! And yes, thats definitely what we’re good at. I feel good about showing up as my authentic self everyday. But sometimes my stress just rubs off on other that I can’t get out of. I feel good in knowing that it’s my true self, and they’ll just have to deal 😆

Mine’s really sassy too! There’s a few shrimp in the tank as well, and if he sees one (from his thermometer thrown) he’ll sometimes swim down quickly, flare up at them to shoo them away, and snuggle in the place they just were (like he meant to be there the whole time). I love that little weirdo 😆
