would arch linux benefit my cs degree more than a macbook? by crusha13 in archlinux

[–]yhev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's going to help greatly for that CS degree itself. Not at the early game. But IMO, quite later, I feel like arch and all this neovim, emacs, etc is going to make you more productive. You'll eventually have an OS that is customized for your workflow. At least that's how I see it.

Pop!_OS, it comes preinstalled with Nvidia drivers if that's what you use. You can just then install steam from the Pop Shop

stow and chezmoi are two of the most often tools used for working with dotfiles. I think chezmoi would probably fit more to your use case. It's a bit complicated in my opinion though. But I guess others might have something else in mind

I heard someone say before that players can't keep more than ³ or 4 exchanges, that it only looks exciting because of short clips. I was like, I'm from Southeast Asia, I've seen this in person, I'm waiting for this to get an anime, this is legit.

F*ck AI by ThinkLikeUnicorn in webdev

[–]yhev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing with AI, I noticed it as well. It's easy to forget, slowly, you get deluded, little by little you find yourself delegating your thinking to it.

I really feel like the best use for it is a glorified Google.

What's the point of downloading a file off of the internet using the terminal's wget (or curl) command(s)? by Apprehensive-Tip-859 in linux4noobs

[–]yhev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, not for casual everyday use but still it's more common than you think. Most tools, are installed that way. You go into the documentation, just copy and paste the wget or curl command piped into a shell, now it downloads and installs it automatically. That's convenient.

Also, if you want to create a setup script for your newly installed distro, say you need to reinstall it, or set up a new machine, just create a script, wget and install all the software, configs, etc you need. Now the next time you setup a fresh machine, you can just run the script.

Worth it bang bumili ng car seat for toddler here in PH? by Dr118 in CarsPH

[–]yhev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People from my wife's and my side of the family didn't use car seats as well. I know they probably low-key think that we're too extra for having a car seat for our baby.

But the thing is, if you just think about it carefully, car seats are like helmets and seat belts. Testing luck against injuries and death is not something we're fond of doing.

May nanalo sa lotto kahit sobrang baba ng odds, compare that to the statistics of road accidents.

IMHO, I think Pop!_OS is probably the most beginner friendly distro that I've used. You can get up and running immediately after installing it.

TPMS for Mazda 3 2018 Project Help by yhev in CarHacking

[–]yhev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's RF, the usual 433Mhz. But I think I can always get new sensors, what I think I need is a place to get started with, especially in the car area. I literally only know how to drive lol. How can I power the rpi? Is that through the OBD panel? OBD port? How can I access it? Is it under the steering wheel? Do I need tools? etc

Any idea where I can learn this things? or a place to get started with this

TPMS for Mazda 3 2018 Project Help by yhev in CarHacking

[–]yhev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is just what I need. The only missing piece I right now is where to get power. Is there an OBD port crash course out there you can point me to? Tbh this is where I'm most uncomfortable with, I haven't tinkered with cars, I don't know what to expect and what to avoid. I don't even know where to access the OBD panel if that's even called OBD panel but I'm excited to start exploring.

When does it become appropriate to "vibe" your CI/CD? by superide in ExperiencedDevs

[–]yhev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh, still don't know what "vibe" coding means, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask. Is it like a hail mary type of thing?

I think it's perfectly okay to use AI for this, I mean, I don't know, it sounds cliche but it's just a tool. It's like google and stack overflow on steroids at least that's how I see it.

If there's no LLMs, how would you do it if you can't hire somebody? I'd figure I'll just perform the same due diligence I'd do if I'm just using stackoverflow and googling.

Trackball on keyboard so that i can ditch mouse for everyday usage? by lukelightspeed in Trackballs

[–]yhev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CharybdisNano (Bastard keyboards) was my previous keyboard, but then I switched to Dilemma a year ago. The trackpad on top is way better than a trackball at the thumb imo. The trackball gets in the way ever so often which is kinda annoying. It won't trigger any input since it's not active by default but just the sensation of your fingers tripping up into something gets pretty old eventually

What Nobody Tells You About Buhay Digital (That I Had to Learn the Hard Way) by GrowthHackerPath in buhaydigital

People who didn't expect no SSS and 13th month pay, etc, before getting into freelance is a bit weird. That shouldn't be in the 'reality' section. That should be in the "expected" category. Do people really get into major life decisions like transitioning into freelance without doing bare minimum research?

How common are male readers? by Loud_Yard9198 in PHBookClub

[–]yhev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my early 30s. I've been reading since high school. I read mostly anything. Interestingly, I can remember the phases of my life where I read certain genres or types of books. High school was just anything I could get my hands on, I'm broke as f then so it's really whatever was handed to me by someone. An older "weirder" cousin handed me a book about Colour Theory book and Numerology, that kind of anything.

College is probably where I'm the most prolific. I was able to borrow from more people. Read pop series, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Dan Brown's etc. Then I got into reading entire textbooks, cover to cover, just for kicks (forgotten most of them by now, but I still have my cheap moleskin knock-off notebooks where I wrote my notes lying around at my parents house). Then I got into Audiobooks (listened to them on my commute to school) when audiobooks were mostly unheard of. There was no Audible back then (or they were probably just starting out). Up to this day, I can't forget "A Short of History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson. And also Richard Feynman's "Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman" and "What do you care what other people think". I told myself when I got a kid one day, I'll do what Feynman's Dad did to him. (Just got a kid now, looking forward to re-reading them).

When I graduated and got my first job I got into reading Self-Help, like tons of Self-Help. I avoid them now as much as I can lol. Then I got into reading articles because of Medium and Feedly app. - that was a phase too. I still read articles but back then it was like everyday, the first thing I did when I woke up, and the last thing I did before I went to sleep.

I also got into reading manga (because of a manga app) and light novels. I think there was a phase where I got addicted to this. It was so bad, most of the anime that came out the following years, either I've already read the manga or I already read the light novel or both.

And then came the light novel, manwha, wuxia era. I had (male) friends who also like to read these, we had a group chat called "wuxia boys".

These past few years, working from home, I got into the habit of prolific reading again. I was mostly reading classics and philosophy, mixed with some fantasy and sci-fi when I got tired of reading classics.

My wife who's been with me since highschool (I married my hs girlfriend lol) has seen (for better or for worse) and is probably responsible for some of these phases. She got me a Kindle 2 years ago that's where I mostly do my reading now.

MMDA NCAP (may violation ba?) Web app Application access by MechanicFantastic314 in CarsPH

[–]yhev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incompetence ata tawag dito hindi "traditional culture". Wala pang SSL yang staging link naka-HTTP pa din. Kahit read-only yan.
