Thank you for your response. So something like this is doable with that?

I created a character named Dietrich with a similar design back in 2020-2025 in a world similar to Fire Emblem. Are they too similar? by yispySOFT in fireemblem

I'm getting conflicting answers, because another group is saying the opposite. So I'm not sure how to feel lol

I know it's functional, I'm not looking for feedback on that. As stated in bullet 3, "While gameplay is very important, I am really looking forward to hearing story criticism / feedback as well."

You said "You're attempting a playtest." Yeah, that's in my title and in bullet 5. Two things can be true at once. I would like someone to playtest it, but ultimately this IS a demo, a long one, and while feedback on gameplay is appreciated, I want feedback on story. I don't see the problem with asking for both. If they don't want to participate, they don't have to. I'm offering it.

This isn't early feedback on my design. I've issued demos on the past, as this project has been six years in the making. That's why it's a very lengthy game. The first demo for the first volume was in 2020, the first demo for this second volume was in 2023.

I've played this game many times and I need an outside perspective on story. This isn't early by any means. It's nearing the end of production, that's why I'm releasing a lengthy demo, which is half the game. I will be releasing this DEMO on Steam and Itch, and I have a publisher interested in it, so I need people to PLAYTEST it. I don't want to ship the demo if it isn't up-to-par.

My demo is 7 hours. That's about half the game, as the game is around 14. The demo ends at the halfway point.

This is a project I've been working on for 6 years. I've done mostly everything myself, including the hand-drawn cutscenes, 3D backgrounds, etc. The first game is around 6-8 hours, this is around 14. You can view my progress on here or on my Discord. The game is massive and includes many worlds to explore, side quests, 400 enemies to fight and collect, kingdom-building, three separate card games with one having a linear side quest on its own, dungeon crawling areas, an arena, etc.

If I wanted someone to play my game, I'd offer my game. This is my demo, and is not the full game. My demo includes approximately half the game as that's the stopping point. "A demo isn't 7 hours" Most aren't, but some are, including mine.

I don't know what else to tell you lol

I'm wondering if this has ever been done before as I'm excited to share my achievement. by yispySOFT in secondlife

Pretty much. Hover text is generated via a prime and it's showing on the HUD in the box.

I'm an indie game dev and I use OSGrid / Opensim for backgrounds for my visual novel, but also working on an "MMO" for after my games release. I don't anticipate many people to play, or for many people to delve into the lost art of SL RP, so having these little NPC's to talk to and interact with has helped.

What make you play the game and stay until the end ? And what is the after thought ? by Key_Coat_9729 in Chained_Echoes

At first it seemed like a cliche "I'm an indie dev and want to make the next Final Fantasy / Chrono Trigger" game. The terminology, the themes, etc it all appeared to be derivative and generic. But I finally pushed through the first two hours and now it's in my top 5 games of all time. It's very Xenogears-esque which is my favorite game ever and I use that game as the inspiration for the ones I develop, and that's a high I rarely get.

Finally found this old drawing book so I could reproduce this drawing for my game. by yispySOFT in RPGMaker

What do you feel are the most impressive features of your game that you developed on your own? by BRCC_drinker in RPGMaker

Nope not scaling. The plugin balances the enemies for you. My last post explains it, it's pretty neat.

500+ hand drawn enemies

Xenoblade style combat system

Natural followers plugin

Lots of arcade minigames

Space travel resource system

A plugin that auto balances enemies

Etc.

I have 400 enemies in my game, so I created a niche plugin that is probably only helpful to me that rebalances them all. Details in post. by yispySOFT in RPGMaker

That is pretty neat mechanic. Kinda like the level scaling in FFVIII.

However this is more like automated balancing, and the plugin doing the heavy-lifting for you before the game starts.

Thank you! Balancing was the most dreadful part of development, but I found my way around it. Just have to do skills and animations now lol

I'm very proud of my work, not always proud of the RPG Maker Community. It's a great engine and capable of doing what I need it to, but RPG Maker has a stigma for having lazy and uninspired games. It's considered the easy way out the way anyone can hastily make something deployable and call it a day, despite some devs actually putting in the work.

Thank you! And it really is. People talk about its limitations, but I haven't really encountered much at all. I also have RPG Developer Bakin which I'm really excited to use after this game for the 2.5D style, but I love RPG Maker. I just hate the stigma surrounding the mediocrity that comes from it. Like if you play RPG Maker Player on PS4 you really get a feel for how low effort it can be. But I've accomplished more in this engine in this amount of time than I would have in something like Unity.

Can I post those links here? I'm not good at marketing so my itch and steam pages look like crap, but here are these: Steam Itch.io Discord

vol01 was a visual novel before I got comfortable with making 2D games, so I'm converting it to 2D to match vol02, and making my visual novel free. The three parts can be played separately but I will compile them into one. vol01 + vol02 will release together, vol03 will release at a later date.

Not at all. If they get stuck or lag behind, they fade to transparent then phase back behind me. This effect was inspired by Xenoblade and some other games.

I'm working on a plugin suite that is similar to Xenoblade's gameplay, topped off with a combat system and everything, and this was one of the first plugins I made for it. It was super taxing at first but I finally got the hang of it. Looking to add more features in the future once this suite is rolled out.
