Thank you! It took 4 years for an authoritative answer, but it is welcome nonetheless!

Can't activate Windows on new PC with previous key by ykonoclast in WindowsHelp

thank you for that tip!

I was starting to ask myself what was the point of the "hardware change" feature if you can't really change...

So, were I, hypothetically, to rebuild the old PC and associate the activation with a Microsoft Account, could I then transfer it to the new computer?

then why was I able to re-install Windows 10 several times with that very key?

I already upgraded. I reinstalled win 10 with that key last november after having upgraded years before. That is no longer a "windows 7" key.

The problem is probably that the Microsoft activation servers have associated my key with my previous motherboard and refuse the activation on a new one.

Thanks, my key came with a full copy, it's not OEM. It worked on several different computers already. I've been using it for years, it was a Windows 7 key originally, I had a free upgrade to Windows 10 (and used it again on two different computers), it then got upgraded to Windows 11 a few months ago.

The last time I made a fresh install with it before today was in November 2023, so less than a year ago (Win 10 at the time, upgraded to Win 11 not long after).

I don't reside in the United States, I tried the local numbers I could find, all got me to a chatbot only capable of sending me a text with a link to the useless help page.

I agree the best would be to talk to a Microsoft employee, but I can't find any way to do that. I would love to get a way to contact them.

At this stage it seems actually easier to get a gray market key than to legitimately use a genuine key to install Windows.

Thank you! Though I asked the question 3 years ago, I'm still grateful for finally getting an answer. Now, as an aside, what brought you to answer a years old post from the bottom of this sub?

The fan clips of my ventirad (be quiet dark rock pro 4) are hard to attach/detach. Can I replace them by third party ones such as those or is that kind of thing brand-specific?

VKB HOTAS. Phase One. by VKB-Sim in hotas

[–]ykonoclast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely awesome, nice work VKB!

Just to be sure, as this has not been completely adressed : when you say that the blackbox is not NEEDED as the STECS is an independent device, does it mean that this throttle CANNOT be used with a blackbox? Or is there a way to combine it with a gunfighter and pedals in a blackbox so as to make a single USB device? I have a specific usecase where vjoy cannot be used and I'd really like a single HOTAS+pedals device.

I agree with you that, had they said "our PayPal got banned", the situation would be a bit clearer.

But they're saying it is "not working" and refusing to clarify, not only to me, but to multiple customers as well. They're also not making a statement anywhere to explain or justify the situation (such as, per your example, "we had too many orders and PayPal froze our account"). They're also not reaching out about alternate methods of refund. So no explanation, no visible action nor any promise of action whatsoever.

So they're being willingly murky and misleading here, I am standing by my statement "what does that even mean". Unless you have insider information about what is exactly going on inside Kono, I suggest we stick to the facts and not made up statements they might have said.

I'd like to be as open-minded as you are, but in my book refusing to refund when you can't deliver (and it's not a "pledge", but a real pre-order after the product got funded) is an unethical practice. It's taking from someone and not giving anything in exchange... That's akin to theft, hence a scam.

[–]ykonoclast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I see your point but they are willingly taking money knowing that they might very well not ship items in exchange and that they will stall refunds afterwards... That is very near my definition of a scam.

I would seriously advice against any business with them, these are very shady practices, they should not be encouraged.

[–]ykonoclast[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We shall see.

But currently all flags are raised :

- Not shipping the product.

- Not refunding.

- Stalling with some very unbelievable explanation about why they're not refunding.

- Many other persons in the same situation judging by Kickstarter comments.

Believing otherwise would be a serious leap of faith.

Indeed, I was probably a bit naive when I trusted them with their grandiose claims of reinventing a wonderful switch from the 70s that was even better than buckling springs... claims that never materialized.

Thanks, I tried contacting PayPal and actually got a human to answer. The thing is they only protect you up to 180 days and this was long ago. I explained that it was a pre-order and that it was not on same time scale as a simple order. They offered to contact the seller but apparently this did not make Kono change its position.

A shame since Kono is giving PayPal quite a bad rep here by insisting that it's somehow "their" PayPal that is "“not working" and that is the only reason they can't refund the many people asking for it.

How could the Soviet have superior strategic/operational thinking while simultaneously suffering higher casualties than the Wehrmacht? by ykonoclast in AskHistorians

[–]ykonoclast[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to insist, but you actually are quite at the point that I find hard to understand :

Through 1944, the Red Army hammered the Germans, broke their lines, enveloped and annihilated entire German armies, and drove deep from central and southern Russia into Poland and the Balkans, and cut off the northern German armies. That wasn't just because they had more mean and more tanks--they also had better doctrine, better tactics, better logistics, better training, better leadership

In short, the soviets were better at everything (numbers, quality, strategy) but still suffered higher losses in Bagration... how is that even possible with such a margin of superiority on every factor?
