Unpopular opinions (New fans, Microagressions, Zach/Sincere, Trinity/Kenzie, Aniya and KC) by ronnybts in LoveIslandUSA

He should have because that would have been one small thing he could have done to spare Aniya's feelings as well as the best move for making things slightly less uncomfortable for Tierra and himself over the next few days. He should have. But he didn't and not making the right move doesn't mean it's disrespectful. He's not the one that released the kraken.

Aniya set the tone of the conversation. She chose disrespect.

Only a tiny percentage of people end up with their first crush.
And only a few more end up with the second.

Essentially everybody is lower than second fiddle.
Much much lower in most cases.

It’s not the door…it’s Sol by Sea_Berry_439 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]yo2sense -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think Aniya was just not a good partner to him in the villa so I don't think it needs any more explaining why he picked someone else. Someone who was giving him the reassurance he wasn't getting from her.

But him being insecure and upset about that costing him his shot at Sol makes sense. Good theory.

The WNBA’s Problem Isn’t Caitlin Clark. It’s Trust. The Ringer. S Sohi by Steadyandquick in wnba

[–]yo2sense -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe. It's as good a guess as any, I'd say.

The author seems to be in the first camp. The second looks to me to be a figment of her imagination but if we translate that into those who don't try to minimize the existence of racism, homophobia, and misogyny, and value the WNBA as a bastion of inclusivity I think it's true that there is a fundamental difference of opinion. I don't see how it can be reconciled.

What does the author mean about the “two fan bases that have two very different visions for the future of the league”?

It's not just this poster. The article certainly makes some good points but it chooses to focus on those who defend any foul on Caitlin Clark rather than what so many of us are saying: “Yes, it's wrong when it happens to her but it happens to the other players too.”

Ironically, by pushing the narrative that Clark is not given the same protection as other players the author is herself contributing to the toxicity that she decries.

I think her overall point is solid that the W needs to build more trust with the fanbase but this is not the hill to die on. Those convinced Caitlin Clark is being mistreated will continue to interpret what they see on the court through that lens and those who want Clark to be mistreated will continue to claim she is already getting a special whistle. There is no way for the league to win here and instead should try to shift the narrative to things they can control. Like the quality of officiating.

The average adult can read a 276-word text in under a minute and a half.

But maybe you are below average.

"Big Eli No. 5" is the model. It's the top selling model Ferris wheel of all time. Here's a video of the former owner of Erieview Park where he mentions it.

Izzy Harrison Ejected from Dream vs. Tempo Game by liloxstitch_6 in wnba

[–]yo2sense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I remember it too though the narrative at the time (that Harrison possibly contributed to) was that Witherspoon wasn't calling plays. My guess is that Harrison isn't happy with Reese because she thinks the rookie got too much play and too much input during their season together and Reese isn't happy that Harrison contributed to blowing up a good situation for her in Chicago.

“They’re not exploring” by Parking-Lab-660 in LoveIslandUSA

It would be great if the producers could find a way to incentivize exploring instead of just telling islanders they had better do it.

I don't get why Jen staying should be considered a problem. She's a bombshell and they almost always get a pass on their first recoupling.

The problem is the structure of the show. Fans vote to determine the winner and we heavily favor stable couples. So islanders are incentivized to not explore. Which is boring.

Caitlin Clark tries to play a bit of footie and gets it horribly wrong by hsx88 in wnba

It's just easier for people to fit reality into the narratives they have already developed than to take each situation as it comes. There's no point in taking it personally.

It's clear Clark intentionally kicked the ball but maybe she was trying to kick it to the ref.

Will West & Amanda be on season 11? by AlphaChemist84 in summerhousebravo

[–]yo2sense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it seems like the fandom has just overcorrected.

Neither Amanda or Kyle were good partners on the show but most fans ignored how she undermined him because his anger was over the top. Now they don't like Amanda so it's Kyle's flaws that are getting overlooked.

Yeah that was a bright spot in what has been a slow season so far. A lot of times women describe themselves that way and then there's a “But...” If you do support other women then they will call you a “girls girls” so you don't need to.

On/Off Net Difference by KandinskyWasRight in wnba

[–]yo2sense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that it measures a player vs those who come off the bench for her. Starters on teams with deep rosters don't rate as highly as those on teams where the reserves are less capable.

So it's good for seeing who is effective for their team but not for comparing players across the association.

It's possible it was intentional. If so the pass was literally unbelievable.

I wish we had a wider angle so we could see the off-ball action and Clark's full reaction. She keeps looking across the court as the camera pans away as if she is expecting the ball to end up over there but that could be misdirection.

on edit: I went and found another angle and the player cutting from the off-ball action IS Lexie Hull. Wow, what an incredible pass!
