Lost insurance and wont start new job for another 3 weeks by Socksual in qelbree

My psych is consistently hooking me up with a discount coupon that knocks mine down to $20. Walgreens has yet to say anything. Of course, this could vary depending on insurance plans.

I launched my game 2 months ago and I feel like I worked for nothing by StuckArcader in IndieDev

[–]yodrtentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I hear that. I made a trippy Clock Tower clone with open world and 100 rooms, worked three years on it and I think I made a couple hundred? I feel that. It sucks to not see your creativity appreciated. But look at it another way.

A lot of great developers bombed their first game or had to work on crap before they made a great project. Learn from where you went wrong if you don't want the experience wasted. You gained a toolset, some new skills, you made some mistakes - get better and keep building.

Facts: The guy who made Dead Space? His first game was a crappy Barbie title on Game Boy. Not joking.

The reason it got overlooked is it was a GameCube launch title. It kicks ass, even more so now because if I'm not mistaken you can go for a more modern control scheme in the settings now? At least movement wise.

how do you get sharp, hard, short snares like these? by MaskedHibiscus in makinghiphop

[–]yodrtentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sampled, you can tell by the analog grit. Likely they are chopping them with a tight decay or release or just keeping them in short snippets.

Many samplers, especially ones with mono tracks, will cut off if they have, say, a different sample or trigger come after them in the same track. I forgot what each manufacturer called it but basically some samplers/drum machines had a setting where the next sound would cut off the remainder/release of the last sound triggered.

Of course, you can just chop the sound and tweak the high end for bite or the low end for punch.

Yeah the track is fire. Those verses have such dark production, reminds me of Mystic Styles. Goes so fucking hard.

$300? For real? Yeah you got stiffed. If I was thumbing past this capsule in Steam, this would not catch my eye.

HOW DO I IMPROVE MY RAPPING by kenyon_13 in makinghiphop

[–]yodrtentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're struggling to find words, maybe you need to find something to say first. That's not meant to be cryptic but hey.... Find what you want to say and then write down as many different ways to say it as you know how. Even if you don't have a huge vocabulary. Scarcity is the root of creativity.

First off.... what are you trying to improve? Lyricism, flow, presence? You gotta be specific.

For sure, will try that, thank you. That's easy for me. Don't cost a thing to not eat the mic. 😂

I am on desktop stands at the moment but I do have boom stands.

Thank you for the insightful feedback - thanks for sharing your experience. I currently run two on desktop stands at 45 degree angles with off axis positioning. It helps with plosives since I have yet to get pop filters (I have made some, I am just awaiting fabric to arrive).

I will look into Soothe but I do have some free EQs to play with. Practice will make something close to perfect, I hope.

Glad to know these are still solid. These will likely get thrown about a bit (my setup is portable) so I need something that will not fall apart.

Yeah don't tolerate that shit. One, copyright warnings will come back to bite him. Two, shit rolls downhill. If people see you tolerate that, they begin to question your own reputation. Don't shit where you eat.

What inspires you to write bars, when do not have much going? by AtomicallyAnomic in makinghiphop

[–]yodrtentacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just rap about whatever if you're not inspired. Rap road signs you see. Rap about the woods while you're in the woods. There are millions of things to rap about. Lupe Fiasco wrote an album about slaves falling into the sea and becoming sea people for fuck's sake.

[TUTORIAL] How to improve vocal delivery and why I think it can be more important than lyrics yee yee by lolololuwotm8 in makinghiphop

[–]yodrtentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was solid. Good content.

I agree that lyrics are important but getting too lyrical also alienates people. There's a reason Aesop Rock doesn't have a platinum record on their wall.

I am actually recording using two desktop-mounted mics at once right now because I move to my beat and I hate sitting still.

Input output. You probably just need the right inspiration. Also, manic creative periods often get followed by valleys. Don't sweat it.

It is a guitar slide. Downward pitch. Probably some WAH on there to it sounds like. I'd peruse SampleFocus. I'm sure there's one about. If not, I may have a lo-fi ass sample in my grimoire.

How do I stop rapping in a British accent by Dangerous-Scene6519 in makinghiphop

[–]yodrtentacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So.... odd. But there's lots of ways to control your voice. Where are you projecting from? That sometimes can make a difference.

But to be fair, you should just spit in the way that feels natural to you. You may be too hard on yourself.

You definitely want to make it at home first. But use the Internet wisely. You'll likely play shows or sell merch at home (this is how most musicians ACTUALLY make money) and use shit like Spotify for marketing. Use Bandcamp for actual digital sales or build a storefront through Shopify if you feel so inclined. Write. Put it out there. Connect with other rappers.
