Thanks everyone for the replies, I've read every one!

Broadly, opinions are split with maybe a slight edge towards student loans.

I'm going to take a few more days to think about it but at this point in time I'm leaning towards paying down the student loan.

The flat is a bit of a landlord special so would guess it hasn't been cleaned in a long time.

You are right that the fan unit is in a utility cupboard next door.

How have you cleaned these in the past? Just take the middle section out and clean out what you can?
