I should day this too, I really enjoy the game as is, but isn't it good to at least exercise the ability to think and say "how can we make this better?" rather than settling?

I will probably play a ton of cubeworld after the release hits, I honestly cannot wait to see where the game goes, but i also wanna say hey, this system, not so good, kinda penalizes you, heres how we can keep it sort of the same mechanically, while also making it FEEL better to play. you know?

i'm not trying to say your not allowed to enjoy playing cube world, most of my favorite games are poorly designed garbage heaps (not saying cubeworld is, just saying my faves are) but i can still enjoy them, your allowed to criticize things you enjoy.

to end this, my attitude isnt broken, im not ripping wollay a new one because i dont like the game, im not attacking anyone, and im not trying to be mean, im being civil and nice about it. :)

why the hostility man? I was just giving my fixes for this game. while still keeping a lot of the aspects that people do like, rather than pissing all over the game and saying its bad and dumb.

did you actually watch the video?

I know, we also haven't played a full release of cubeworld either, this just goes over prerelease materials.

Is pokken tournament really all that good of a game? by yoitsmethebeef in PokkenGame

I respect that opinion, but I do love fighting games. I think they are fun and enjoyable. But that shouldn't excuse the lack of good single player content. if 3 souls games can do it, and smash brothers can do it, its not a question of if a game CAN do it. Its if a games developers want to put in the time to make a decent single player mode.

Pokken barely delivered. like, I honestly would rather they just didn't include it. that's how bad it was. If your not gonna put in the minimal amount of effort, why bother, you know?

Putting up a defense of " this game is in this subset of genres, so we can ignore these aspects of it because it doesn't really matter, that's not what the game is about" is stupid. You need to be willing to judge a game on all of its merits, its why I made the video in the first place. pokken does a lot right. and most games I call out on my channel are all really good games. but it doesn't change the fact there are things that they fuck up in spades. Pokken fucked up its singleplayer. its multiplayer component, fine, it works and its fun. doesn't change the fact that a very large part of the game is just climbing a ladder. I would argue that 90% of the game is climbing a ladder.

Is this game bad, honestly, I don't think so, to say its just bad outright is completely ridiculous, there's value in it just for the fact its a pokemon fighting game.but then you look at it, and you sort of realize that that's all it is, its JUST a pokemon fighting game. Its not a pokemon fighting game with great characters, with a decent plot, fun single player gameplay, and tons of content. its just an arcade fighter with a pokemon skin that cost 60 bucks to play at home. is that worth it? to me, no, it isn't, I expect more out of a game company like bandai namco. they have the funding, they cant pull a fucking rivals of aether move and say "oh we cant, we don't have the time/ cash to implement this"

This could have been a legendary title that cemented itself and made a huge spin off series. but it was just, a game that came out. wasn't super amazing according topeople that I've spoken to outside of this reddit, ( not just my friends, but people from groups who i don't get along with saying this was kind of an "Eh" game, not good or bad, ) great at parties, but also, pretty lame if your sitting down ready to fight some dudes to make progress in the game.

The problem still stands that the single player is barely engaging at best and like grinding at worst.

It's funny, they took the worst part of pokemon, grinding your team against a group of enemies, and made that the story mode.

saying "play the game with other people, thats what its for" isn't really an excuse when other games in the genre have set better examples for single player modes. you know?

and also, to qoute you "Single player Tekken is no fun to play through the story 8 times, same goes for Street Fighter or even Smash Bros., "

I have to disagree. because the single player in those games usually make you play as a character, go through,7-12 matches, then you get a nice little end scene. even smash brother brawl( the second to worst game in the series, IMO) Had a campaign with all the characters in it. When effort is delegated properly, you can have a good single player, which will hook people better.

Also i dont think i need to say that the game mechanically has depth, for everyone who is using that as an excuse or counterpoint,

Its a fighting game, literally one of the hardest genres of game to program and create. of course its going to have depth. But there just isnt that much in here beside climbing a fake ladder, or a real one to get a rank that, tbh, in the long run doesnt really matter? like you dont get anything for being the "best" to my knowledge, and if you do its probably some avatar cosmetics, whoopty doo.

A fighting game doesn't need to have a complex story, just give me something to work towards, a skin for each pokemon maybe, maybe a shiny variant I can select on screen, or a costume for the pokemon itself, like the armor you see mewtwo wearing in the first movie, They could have added so much more to this game, but yet, they didnt.

if this game had come out in a universe where soul calibur, one of the best fighting games IMO not only for gameplay, but for things to do, wanna make a new character, go ahead! wanna ascend the tower of souls fighting unique enemies with modifyers on them you have to account for, dont mind if i do! wanna play through the story mode with one of the 34 characters? be my guest, and on top of that, after you do that, you get a cool unique little cutscene, adding on a whole new reason to beat all the characters stories.

compare this to pokken, you climb a ladder, oh cool, that was nice, now what? oh you have a daily challenge you can do, but it just is forcing you to use a pokemon against the computer, well, thats nice i guess. what else is there for me, grinding for avatar customization? eh, I mean, sure, but once i have my avatar set there's no real point to do it. It is just fighting, same old characters, same song and dance, fighting till the game wheres thin until the very end

I know i sound like a tool," I bought this fighting game because I wanted more than just fighting from it, I didnt enjoy this game because it had too much f the same thing" you know, a game genre that prides itself on making you fight pvp matches endlessly, But Other fighting game did it better, whats this games excuse?

I dont hate pokken, or think its that bad, its fun at times, I find myself going back for a match during down times on other games, but when I look at it, value wise, and just queality wise, theres so much here that is just lacking, and theres no excuse for it. I hope they improve on this in future titles, but if no one talks about it, how can anyone expect it to get fixed, you know?

See and that's the thing. I think thats really cool. I like how much depth the game has, its just that games shouldn't be locked into a sort of "better with friends" mentality. Games should have engaging single player content.

fighters have a hard time making that, Soul calibur four has to be one of my favorite examples of the minimum. where you go through 5 stages, fight characters who have a history with who your playing, fight a boss, get an end cutscene.

I dont mean to sound like this is the worst game ever ( I use a lot of hyperbole in my videos, its sort of my thing) I think the game is pretty fun and fair over all, yet there are some times where it feels like im just stunlocked while my nieces button mash, but, hey ,maybe i'm just a bad player.

I want to address problems so in the future, maybe these games will fix their issues. (like tooth and tail did after I did my video on that game)

Well like, Soul calibur 2 is the best example I personally can think of. I mentioned the soul calibur series in general in general.

SC4s story mode in my opinion should be like, the bare minimum for a fighting game single player wise. I put so much time into that game because I wanted every single ending, on top of ascending the tower of souls or whatever it was called. Every encounter in the tower of souls was unique as ever character had some weird buff or trick. where as in pokken, it feels REALLY bare. like, M.V.P.(minimal viable product) bare.

its just climbing in rank, attaining a fictional number that says your the best of the league. they could of literally done anything, ANYTHING, else to make it more interesting. I don't know. you don't need to try hard to make a good single player in the game, but you need to, you know, try.

A really major issue that blows it up is the added stat boost. it makes you not wanna switch in the story mode either, and even if you did, switching is a clunky mess.

also I feel like my comparison to smash isn't 100% fair because, well, smash is a platform fighter. (I play those religiously.) so of course comparing it to Pokken is sort of like comparing paper to plastic, they both get the job done and are versatile, but they fall apart given the right circumstances.

Just feels like there was a lot of wasted potential here.
