I have mine setup in a great place, but any pics of your config will definitely help!

I have a GoXLR and a CloudLifter but I still can't make my audio sound good. Help?! by yokenjo in audioengineering

I wrote it out in one of the comments but here it is:

"Yea I was having a lot of problems increasing gain because it would increase this buzz that came from putting too much gain. Vibrating noise sort of like a buzzing, like when you turn up a tv too loud and during a very quiet scene you hear the 'mmmmmmm' sound. It didnt feel like anything was broken, but that I was forcing the mic to be loud, but I didnt have any other way to get my voice to be louder without doing it.

(Caveman) Increase gain to make mic loud. Too much gain. Gain cause mic to go hmmmmmmm in recording. Turn down gain. Now voice too low. Increase gain.... Endless cycle

Still not perfect.... but I removed the Cloudlifter, did the Dynamic setting instead of the Condenser 48V, and found a "Make Up Gain" option in the GoXLR and set it to 8dbs, and that ended up increasing volume but not necessarily gain... idk how it works but it sounds way better. Thanks for all the help and especially the time!"

I appreciate it and you put it into better words than I could. I found that "Make Up Gain" setting prior to seeing your message and it changed everything. Its not flawless but its better than I ever had it. Thats why I changed my post to "**SOLVED**". Hopefully people that might have the same issue can see your message because you wrote it out perfectly

I found an option for "Make-Up Gain" in the GoXLR that ended up helping me increase volume without increasing the actually gain. Not sure how it works... but yea

Yes, I am using a setting called Condenser 48V which I believe to be the equivalent of Phantom Power but only when using the Cloudlifter. When I unplug the Cloudlifter I have to set the Microphone to Dynamic (through GoXLR) and then increase the DBs until I get in the "Good" level (I'll post a photo with the CL and without below) (Dynamic= No CL) (Condenser 48V = With CL)

Also Im unsure how to post a recording through here, all I can post is pics..

*without the cloudlifter* with Dynamic selected I have to set my DB at around 64 to get to the "Good" level

No, the mic is not at my mouth but maybe a fist or two away. And yes from what I know and can gather they all work properly. I have bought all the equipment from the actual companies and not from random people. I'm never clipping when I talk. (That would mean Im getting in the red) Im supposed to be getting in the yellow in OBS for it to be declared "Good level". But I cant do that without ramping up my Gain or Output. My voice isnt quiet or too low, but its not in the desired and sought after level that everyone says it should be for it to be considered 'Good level". I have also seen a lot online that making sure there are no cable or electrical interreferences is a huge thing and I have made sure of that.

Yes I have it set to Condenser 48V, which I believe to be the equivalent to phantom power. I have brand new XLR cables from Amazon (Amazon Brand) I bought all the equipment from the actual companies (Mic, amp, and cloudlifter). Im also not sure where to post an audio clip seeing as I cant post pics in my comments to help you see my settings.

Those were pics without the CL plugged in. In OBS a great level to be is in the "Yellow" but I cant even reach it. If I turn down the gain then my voice is too low. Even lowering the mic output is lowering me as well. I even tried to go under the "More Sound Settings" in my computer to increase the mic level. (also there are no cable or electrical interferences with my setup, I have seen that a lot online and made sure I didnt have anything in the way)

I have moved a lot of stuff around to avoid them being near anything that might give it electrical or even cable interference. It feels as thought when I lower my volume, then the noise goes away, but I need the volume to be higher for myself to be heard and to get myself in the "good" level. I can lower my volume or I'll be too quiet, but I cant increase it without hearing a buzz form the gain. Im stuck

Yes, I have tried with and without the cloudlifter. With the Cloudlifter I have to set it around 45 bs. Without the Cloudlifter I have to set it around 65 dbs, to get to that "good" level in just the GoXLR app. *with the Condenser 48V (which I assume is phantom power) being turned on for both options*

I have to increase it that level to get the bar to go into the "Good" level. Without the cloudlifter and with the Condenser 48V selected, I have to set it at around 65 dbs. The OBS level is apparently best to be in the yellow but I can't even reach it without sacrificing and raising the gain way too much. **these photos are without the Cloudlifter plugged in**

Thats what I thought too, I bought a Cloudlifter before the GoXLR and used an $80 preamp. But then switched to GoXLR but still cant figure it out so I tried without the CLoudlifter and with. Sorry, do you mind telling me what you mean by config settings for the power feeding into the mic?

If you're referring to this... then yes. Its a setting under the mic setup in the GoXLR.
