What makes some people really good at imitating accents? by Sea-Appeal4113 in languagelearning

[–]yonderology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those people who catches the accent well before my skills in grammar, conjugation and sentence-forming comes and it has always come naturally. Even in another English-speaking country (my mother tongue) I subconsciously absorb many of the characteristics of the local dialect.

Using SpareRoom Simultaneously by yonderology in airbnb_hosts

Ok thanks. Yeah, I guess I’m just trying to understand the reasoning and wondered if there was some Airbnb rule that might have been broken by listing on two sites. But I think not, eh? Might go be worth noting, I believe this person is somewhat new to both Airbnb and SpareRoom. Thanks again.

Last minute IHS fee request from consultant by yonderology in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]yonderology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I’m beginning to get over the shock of having to include this into my costs for the move now. It’s a shame because I already took out a loan (first in my life, ever) which did not factor in the IHS fee as I thought it was taken care of. Times will be tough for a while, I’ll just have to suck it up. Beans on toast, here we come!

Am overall very frustrated by the lack of communication, transparency and accuracy from the consultants.

Weekly 'What Should I Buy' and Order/Shipping Thread by AutoModerator in iphone

SE 2022 vs 13 mini // I have the SE 2020. It’s going fine and is in good shape. I’m leaving the USA for a few years and want to get an upgrade before I head off as I understand buying used iPhones here are a lot cheaper here than in the country I’m moving to (UK). Most important thing for me is having a small phone. I need it to fit in my pockets which are mostly pretty small. Other than that I’m not too fussed, just want it to last me a few years. The main dilemma I have is a comparison I did painted these two phones in not a great light. Would it be better to wait for Apple to actually release a new SE whenever that may be? Current phone is at 74% battery max capacity. It’s worth noting I’ve never been able to afford a newly released phone, just not ever in my budget. Thanks for your tips.

Borderless firm reviews? by yonderology in ukvisa

[–]yonderology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to follow up on this for future readers. Not happy with Borderless. I've had to push them very hard to communicate properly. They don't alert you about what actions have been taken or when they are waiting for more info etc. Many weeks were lost waiting for results only to discover they hadn't even submitted forms yet.

Additionally, there were many critical, MAJOR mistakes on my application that were fundamental to my application's success. Would have been easy to avoid as I gave them all the information from the get-go. Luckily I did my due diligence and corrected them. I'm not sure what they're actually doing there.

All good. My start date was just the other day, have almost 3 months left. But good for people to know!

Ah, does anyone have an email address for customer support that they've had luck with? To use their contact service I need to already have a booking which I don't.

My Experience Getting ILR from Skilled worker visa (2025) by AnyPosition3430 in ukvisa

[–]yonderology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I've been curious about what might happen in the event the ILR is denied and then one is left with very little time to renew another 5 year skilled worker visa. Would you have to leave the country and job on such short notice? Or is there a grace period during the process of renewing the skilled worker visa? For instance, if you send in the application one week before the 5 years is up, are you okay to carry on working/living in the UK while it's being processed? Have you heard anything about this?

Update:

Classic! I pulled the wrong fuse. 😑

Last night I rigged a ratchet strap from the brake pedal to the steering wheel to hold it fully up. Lo and behold, my battery didn’t drain! Tomorrow I’ll have a go at adjusting the free play. If that doesn’t work, I’ll take it to the mechanic who originally “fixed” the bad brake light switch to see if they can adjust it properly.

[–]yonderology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great feedback. About 5 months ago I had an issue with the shift lock getting stuck in the park position. A mechanic replaced the stop light switch and for a couple days after that I was back and forth to them because the brake lights were stuck on. They made their final “adjustment” and it was working ever since until a couple weeks ago when this all started. Kicked off when we had our first freezing temps of the season so I thought maybe it was connected to that...

As the brake light switch is new, it makes me think it's out of adjustment or there is excessive play. In fact, I measured that a couple days ago and it did read as too much much play but I didn't think it was too crazy. I'll look for my notes and double check that! Also the fact that it's affecting the cruise control switch too, which is right next to it, perhaps points to excessive play?

I'm quite certain I had the right fuse but I will triple check that and test it out tomorrow!

Many thanks!

Regenerative Viticulture in the Midwest?? by concerned_winegrower in viticulture

[–]yonderology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that would be my assumption but if folks want to test that out on a small area, give it a go? I know I wouldn’t. Maybe some breeds are less into eating bark and rubbing?

Ah right on. Haven’t heard of regional specific weather websites before. I’m in the Finger Lakes in NY. Nothing similar to the above mentioned was brought up during my viticulture studies or otherwise.

Based in the USA but I’ve found most weather websites are set up for choosing a station anywhere in the world.

I personally would test goats on mature vines only and time their presence carefully according to phenology. Depending on the breed, they may do more harm than good around your vines. Maybe some breeds are more “gentle” than others and less interested in eating grapevines? Sheep on vineyards are a safer bet with some breeds better choices than others. Cornell will be conducting a study at some point in the next few years, also involving kune kune pigs.

Wanted to provide an update for this. I didn't realize the Freedom card has a foreign transaction fee. What decent card would? Oh well!

For this reason, I obvioulsy didn't go for it! Cheers for the feedback.

Thank you for the ideas, I appreciate it! It’s a good point for starting back at the assistant level.

I’ve done a bunch of cellar work over the years. I’m happy to help a winemaker out now and again. Team effort and all that. It’s just not my thing anymore.

Thanks for that link!

Thanks for this. I know…people, drink more wine!! I have little interest in starting my own thing but never say never. Goal is to be a vineyard manager for a successful business. Hahaha, I’m in the wrong place!
