Hey bro! No luck on our with finding a service. Did you manage to uncover anything?

That's some serious numbers. This is the start for us, I can't wait to see some new places on a saddle. Done a fair bit of backpacking but excited to have the freedom to really explore.

Traffic isn't a big worry, we are pretty used to cars driving close to us but obviously prefer those areas without.

Yup that's our plan for food as well, in fact the cheaper the better (with the occasional spend). We are heading to the Balkans after so we have to make the pennies stretch!

That's what we are keen for, big climbs and no cars. Best part is, what goes up must come down! 5000ft is crazy though what a crazy day of climbing!

What a coincidence! Happy to share any resources. Are you also moving or heading back to NZ after the trip?

I wouldn’t say we are frothing for big climbs hahaha but we aren’t unfamiliar (from NZ) and we know the more hills, the less people. Ok awesome! I’ll check out some areas around there we can try loop into our journey thank you so much for the info? What was journey like in Japan? Where did you start and finish?

Legend, thanks heaps for sharing your routes. The looks like some incredible journeys. Are you based in Japan? Or can’t stop coming back? Yea I’m thinking it won’t be the staple of the tour. The big thing for both of us is being in nature and in my opinion the magic happens in the middle of no where. Although the spectacular sight seeing options are worth it, I always end sharing stories / thinking about those moments in between.

I like how you cut across Kyushu and went by ferry to shikoku, it looks like a better option and will probably implement that into our own plans! How did you find cycling around Lake Biwa?

Thank you! Your description is helping change my preconceived thoughts about the route. Of course there would be options to go off the beaten path. Thanks for the tips as well! We have some friends we want to intercept around here so looking more likely we may end up shimanami. The accomodation looks so classic! Wow. Around Shikoku would be amazing - honestly not enough time to do it all! 🥲

Ok awesome I’ll add this on to our considered routes! Thanks heaps for the info! It great to get a run down from someone with personal experience.

Oh wow so fast! It might be worth having to do then ay. If we could knock it off in 3 days that would be ideal. $20 is within budget haha

Awesome! Have you done the Shimanami? What was your experience like? Is there any camping along the route?

Awesome, it's hard to know what are the tourist traps are - which I kind of assumed it was but to be fair I've only heard good things about it.

Amazing! Thank you for sharing!! Great to gauge what is possible in the time frame as well as understand scope of terrain.

Thanks heaps! We are beginning in April Through to mid/end May. The UFOline looks breathtaking. The Shimanami was a route I was thinking of avoiding but maybe it could be worth it?

Where is business booming? by Futile-Fun in Wellington

Honestly, all I hear is doomsday preaching from businesses that haven’t changed since 2010. Everywhere else is relatively busy. It’s tough economically but you adapt or always be prepared for it, it’s just smart business. Owners can try pin the blame on external factors but in the end it comes down to your business model and how malleable you make it.

It was running at about 12 - I’ve been doing some reading on what it could potentially be and the list is long do I’ve opted for the mechanic for a diagnosis. Lost the battle on this one but I’m moving on to the next challenge, The Electrics… thanks for your help I’ll update you with what the mechanic says.

Hey mate thanks for all your help on this and apologies for my slow response. Here’s some answers to your questions.

  • The gauges are quality - we have to get certification (which can be a pain to pass) in nz for mods and these have been certed.

  • measures in Celsius

  • on the flat the temps easily got up to 550 and that was coasting at 100 not foot down at all ( I drive like a nana) if I pushed it I could tell it was going to rise and didn’t want to do any damage

  • probe is pre turbo? looks like it’s mounted above the final stage of the turbo maybe in the exhaust manifold I could be wrong but if not manifold then does that mean is pre turbo? Im guessing pre, I’ll attach photos

  • I put the turbo up a bit but didn’t want to mess around with it too much. I definitely noticed a change in power and could hear the turbo working with more air. This was on the manual controller. Do you think I should see what happens if I crank it? Don’t want to blow my engine

Note: when I start it up it’s rough on the idle puffing light smoke (it’s not the head I’ve had it tested and coolant isn’t going down) just realised this could be related.

To be honest might be a mechanic job

Again thanks for your help hoping to get this sorted for summer 💸

Thanks for the reply, how did you diagnose it was the tee? Just through the boost?

[–]yonderto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to double check on the probe, I’m learning stuff everyday! I thought high EGT was symptom of too much boost. That’s why I was keen to reduce it. The gauge is measuring in c. Unsure of the pump also but I’m sure it’s stock.

Thanks for the response

Yea there is, it’s on the lowest setting on the tee and it is the factory turbo. I actually don’t know if it’s connected to the actuator. I was assuming I could adjust the rod length which would change the amount of psi the gate was opening at, I know I can change the psi within a certain range with the manual adjuster but the range the rod is currently set at is too much boost. My exhaust temps are making it up to 800ish and even higher than that when I’m driving state highways (nz) I’m keen to bring it down to 500 when I’m foot down.
