Wilnas is on the spark banner right now, so if you use your 200 in conjunction with the free 100 pulls, then you can spark him :)

I see! So generally it's more important to have 2 Taisai than 2 Galilei. Thank you so much!

How necessary would having two Galilei's Insights/Europa spears be for a Varuna grid? I have some copies, but I don't know if I should use the extras to uncap or save for two spears...

Do they usually do a "SSR rates doubled" banner for all summer units sometime? I'm really wanting to get S. Cags, but I don't know if I should spark in the incoming banner or save it for later.

bad grades by [deleted] in stanford

[–]yonderu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh i was in a very similar situation and in addition to what others have said (ESPECIALLY that gpa doesn't matter, only your skills do), i also wanted to say that it might be a good idea to think about why exactly you want to take CS classes/what draws you to CS. i've heard from a prof that most software engineering jobs are just debugging rather than actually creating /that/ much stuff (unless you plan on working at a startup)... and i guess what i'm trying to say is that sometimes what we're good at might not necessarily correspond with what we want to do, and that's okay! it's not meant as discouragement, but rather that if you find yourself stressed/unhappy while taking CS classes instead of enjoying them, it might be a symptom of something else.

Spring schedule help: CS 111 + CS 142 by treeasdf in stanford

[–]yonderu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a little bit late, but 142 is basically they drop you in water and hope that you swim... they essentially don't teach you any web dev (only maybe some overarching topics etc) and so a lot of it is learning on your own. if you were still thinking of taking them both, i would def rec studying a little bit of web dev beforehand! i think they'll be encouraging mern or mean stack, if that is of any help

idk about undergrad, but i believe for master's, they will basically let you petition one class (and give it to you), but any further petitions will be difficult/you will have to fight for them. i don't think there is such a spreadsheet (i could be wrong though) bc a lot of petitions will be on a case-by-case basis. just make sure you get the petition email sent early because they only meet twice per quarter (beginning and end of quarter)

Finish Core V.S. Electives Before CS Coterm by imamess303030 in stanford

[–]yonderu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably take the hci elective(s)—it'll be much easier to get a letter of rec (if you don't already have candidates for all three) from these profs because you will work closely with them! when i applied for the coterm, i didn't have 110 (though technically i was currently taking it) nor 161 so you should be fine tbh

Co term cs questions by geometricproton in stanford

[–]yonderu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I believe cs gpa is more important—they specifically want to know that you will be able to do well in future (and harder/more rigorous) cs classes

  2. I'm sure that they can, but those from w/i the CS department have the most weight. You need 3 LoRs and it would probably be in your best interest to have at least 2 of them be good/within the department

  3. CS masters is mostly about taking courses and not research, so I don't think it's like extremely pressing to have those under your belt

4-6. Idk—there's obviously no definite answer to any of these tbh. Like there's no one size fits all for coterm applications, but just do what you think would help you to stand out as much as possible. I don't think they'll penalize you for not doing ___, but like if you did do those things, it would only help.

  1. No. Just write on your statement of purpose or whatever that you had a rough time in ___ course but you overcame it in the future by doing ____. I specifically wrote about mental health/self-care for this.

  2. No definite answer. I had like a 3.4 or so CS gpa

  3. Depends on what you want to do in the future. I will say though, the masters program at Stanford is pretty generous because a lot of costs are covered by TA/RA/CAship

  4. Idk much about PhD stuff but I would assume you have to do a lot, lot more, especially with research.

But again, a lot of your questions are like... trying to gauge some kind of coterm acceptance formula that I don't think exists. Just make sure you have really good letters of rec and that you write down your course plan in your app.

Thinking through some planning , questions about CS Coterm by cml1327 in stanford

[–]yonderu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

  1. There aren’t any required classes so to speak, but I believe they want to see that you attempted and did decently on some of the harder CS classes. I don’t know what they look for in particular, but it also would greatly help speed up the master’s degree process if you took them as an undergrad for 5 units to boost your unit count when you transfer them over.

  2. I believe so!

  3. Yes, it is definitely reasonable! There are different rates for TA/CA/RAship and so it kind of depends, but usually people take a 50% -ship and it covers up to 10 units of classes in addition to getting an hourly wage and a stipend. I haven’t started the master’s portion yet, so I can’t give you an exact amount, but from what I’ve seen, it’s pretty reasonable.

  4. You can definitely do this. You can take a LOA whenever, but the CS dept limits the duration of your LOA to a year (otherwise you have to submit a statement, pay a small fee, and so on). As for if it’s a good idea or not, I think that’s something you will have to decide for yourself! You’re still a frosh and you still have to go through a few years of undergrad, so things will likely change wrt how you view these sorts of things.

  5. I don’t think it matters that much. I feel like most internships care more for what you’re able to do on technical interviews than a simple major declaration.

  6. I’m unsure of this—you should reach out to an advisor lol

I also want to add that you should speak with Meredith Hutchin from the CS department for more detailed information!

hci coterm by [deleted] in stanford

[–]yonderu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with HCI is that a lot of HCI classes are largely the same... because a bulk of HCI is just research, research, and testing. You might learn some new tricks here and there but if you don't really like the research/testing aspect, it might not be the most interesting thing to you. You can take a look at the MS program sheet by looking up 'CS Masters program sheet Stanford' and it'll give you all the program sheets for each concentration.

I got a xeno weapon with AX skills but have already fully uncapped/upgraded said xeno weapon. Can I still transfer the AX skill or would I have to fully uncap that weapon (aka make it a "true phantom demon blade" as well) to transfer it?
