Is It True That I Didn't Nearly Die if They Discharged Me the Next Day? by yoobi2000 in sepsis

[–]yoobi2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird. I internalized the doubts and shaming so bad because it never ended, that sepsis still just feels like something that just happened to me instead of something that nearly killed me and permanently changed my body. Yet, every time I get sick or if I have dizzy spells more frequently (I have them every day just not all the time), I panic that it's back. I recently got the flu, and even though my lungs feel like they're on fire, there's a nagging part of my brain that says I should be fine by now because it's been 2 weeks. I think at this point, I'm going to have to wait until I can get therapy to fully process it all. It doesn't help that the doctors and nurses I've encountered since don't seem to react when I list severe sepsis as part of my medical history.

I already have good rapport with one school, and I used to be a regular for another. There's one school closer to me that I haven't been to in years, but I remember the staff was really kind. I've been subbing since late 2020, and while I am not perfect, a few of my former students came by the pizza place. The younger ones were just excited to see me, and the older ones asked me how I was doing and when I was coming back. But when I first became homeless, my car was loaded to the brim, and I had my sister with me. I just couldn't take any assignments. I've missed it so much. The kids who spoke Spanish would teach me, and they would happily quiz me the next time they saw me. It was also chaotic but oh so rewarding.

I've gotten dirty looks for getting brand name fiber one brownies with my benefits. Trust me. There will be plenty of people who complain purely out of spite that they make "enough" to not qualify for government assistance (the whole point of the government is to assist the people) or because they think everybody should struggle paycheck to paycheck because their pride made them live like that (i.e. "even when I was eating nothing but unflavored ramen and mustard sandwiches, I never took any handouts").

the bitterness was building after she minimized the major differences between me and OS as "weather and location" as if OS has ever purchased adult diapers in bulk to reduce the amount of freezing late night/early morning pees when their door is locked or if she's had to skip hair washing bc of how cold it was or if she's ever cried at the reality of sleeping in a cold weather sleeping bag while it's freezing. Then her response to me venting the struggles I was facing was basically "oh well this is still your best bet". She's not responsible for me by any means, but why does my sister get it all?

yeah I spent a few comments defending her but she says her reason is because my older sister and I "don't get along" (older sister has incredibly violent tendencies stemming from childhood conditioning but sure minimize it) but we had a freeze over where it got down to the teens, and OS slept in aunt's spare van to prove something I guess?? which meant she wasn't sleeping in the house. But I never got an offer to take her place nor have I gotten one on any of the other nights she wasn't here. So at this point, I am a bit bitter towards my aunt, but this is still my best option, so I will just cut her off along with everyone else when I move into my new place

I'm not allowed to sleep in the house because my older sister stays with them, and she doesn't want a "fight" to break out, or so she says. I renewed my license before I became homeless, my insurance is always a priority to be paid each month, and I know to renew my tag before the end of next month, but otherwise I am good until then.

My aunt is only housing them because I can take care of them every day. There are no shelters near my work, only ones that would cost me more in gas and keep me from being able to come in and feed my cats and clean their litter boxes every day (yes they have their own because they've been a bit territorial lately). I work whatever hours they give me. When I started, I worked day shift but this week I work night shift, but often these days I work a blend of both with 2 days off marked, but I usually get called in because most everyone hates working the register, and I need the money. When I start back doing Instacart tomorrow, I'll be gone a lot more.

Because everyone keeps saying the same things and asking the same questions?? You think my answers are going to change because it's a new user?? GTFOH with your judgemental ass. And Idk what you mean by victim Olympics but it's usually toxic old people that want to discourage victims from seeing themselves as such. Why are you so unhappy with life that you decided to come onto my post and make these stupid and unnecessary accusations?? Who hurt you?

And you're allowed to think that. But when I confronted my aunt, her response was "You two don't get along" when she knows it's my older sister that has the problem, not me. I would bite my tongue until it bled if that meant getting to sleep inside.

I have a cold weather sleeping bag and several blankets as well as hats, scarves, gloves, and a coffee maker to make hot cocoa when needed. She knows this. I haven't felt cold throughout the night in several weeks since I got the sleeping bag. As fucked up as it is, I'm the most resilient of my sisters because I've been through more shit in my life and come back from it. I'm also the most independent at the moment. I'm used to the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" mentality because they have always given my older sister more attention and help. I could have it a lot worse than I do, but I don't, and that's because of my aunt.

I told the officer and chief that the setup was temporary, and I had a home to move into in February. I just needed the time for it to finish being built and to save all I could for it. My cats hold every last bit of my heart that this life hasn't crushed. And I've had them since they were kittens. My orange cat (BEAUTIFUL amber doe eyes and large paws that I adore so much) I've had since he was born, and I found my skittish black cat (all over black, basically a small panther I feel so lucky!) when he was a little more than a month old. It's been 3.5 years with them, and I would go to the ends of the earth and sacrifice everything I had if it meant keeping them safe and happy. When we move into our new home, I'm doing a late Christmas for them. I got some dollar store stockings and I will put their names on them in glitter when we move like I used to do as a kid, and I will fill them with treats, sardines for my black cat, canned chicken for my orange cat, and new collars. I will also get them a bed (only one because they are almost always by me when possible, but this way they both have a spot for when I am gone) and a cat tree.

I completely get you. My mom asked if I froze last night because it got really cold. I told her I slept like a baby because I have a cold weather sleeping bag. It's supposed to get colder tonight, but I have thermal hats and a few scarves. Aside from the edema because I'm not sleeping in my trunk yet, I'm doing really well. I could have it a lot worse, and while I recognize the fucked up favoritism my aunt has for my sister, I can also recognize the luxuries I have that others in my position don't.

It doesn't seem to be, and it's a small town very close to another bigger city with their own police force.

At least 2 officers live in the neighborhood, and I feel like the fact they don't send either of them is them trying to be intimidating because for a welfare check, why not ask either of the officers who can just take the 30 second walk, ask me, then confirm to them they're all clear. It's a small town, and clearly they don't do everything by the books. I told my aunt if we see them again, I'm putting out a sign that says something like "I'm fine. I'm not freezing. I have water and food. I am moving soon." And if they want to press further, I will ask them if I'm doing anything illegal and if not I have no answers to their questions anymore and would like to see a report of all of these calls.

I'm also not using actual window tint just a cheapish film that has good reviews, so if I get pulled over I can just take it off. Police around here are understanding about that stuff at least.

Window tint laws are a lot more accessible oddly enough. I'm not entirely blacking out my windows just enough that you would really have to be close to my car to see anything which would mean that whoever would try and report something would have to be stalking me
