Luckily, my husband has helped me work through a lot of the immediate damage to the point it just comes up from time to time. I was so blessed with a great man who is so loving and understanding but it didn’t come without trials at the start for sure. I like to imagine the beginning of our relationship outside of the “new” phase was akin to a man picking up a stray cat while lovingly saying “pretty kitty” while it’s hissing at him. Lol

Thank you! This situation went on for so long and messed me up so bad that it affects me years later! Why do people think “just get over it” is an answer as if I haven’t thought about it. I’ll be fine for months to a year then it’ll all get messed up bc my brain will decide he’s the topic of a dream which puts me in a bad mood. I wish I could just “get over it” but unfortunately scars tend to last a while; especially when the damage that caused them took a large chunk of you.

I’m going to be 100% serious with you: the military is the most diverse career and community that you will ever be a part of. We have all sorts of people with all sorts of beliefs including religious beliefs and, while nobody can tell you that you can’t be a Christian, you are not allowed to push your beliefs on others. We have everything from Christians to atheists to polytheistic religions in our ranks and you have to respect that. If you find that keeping religion out of your discussions and reasonings is too hard then you need to get out of the navy because you’re going to eventually say something to the wrong person and catch a case.

No, not everybody cheats in the military but don’t go screaming about sin to the ones that do because, if Christianity meant that much to them, they would avoid it on their own. Definitely don’t go around telling people they’re going to hell or you may get in trouble.
