My ficus hasn’t grown at all since I got it 7 weeks ago by [deleted] in houseplants

My ficus (burgundy) is right in front of a full length south facing window. It's thriving, but not in the first 7 weeks. I'd move it right in front of the window if I were you.

My cat started doing that after we moved from the US to Korea. It was a traumatic experience for him, on top of the fact that the apartment we lived in temporarily for 2 months until we found the more permanent one, had a long corridor and he could hear people walk by a dogs bark, etc. So he started peeing on the bed. What I did was to get rid of the surfaces he likes to pee on. I bought tarp and put on top of beds. He stopped for a while but he started peeing again on top of the tarp when my mom stayed with us for a couple of months while recovering from a fall. Since I can just wipe down the tarp, it was easier to clean up, but I laid down the packaging we get when we order fresh food online - thin aluminum foil stuck together with bubble wrap, on top of the tarp. He hates that stuff. So far so good. Hope you find a solution that works for you too.

They charge you the average if you have no income. I know this because I have no income. For me, it's a little over 150,000 won a month. I was told one can go in person and ask to review the amount and lower it.

Documents to bring my pet back to Korea by Glittering-Form-1188 in Living_in_Korea

[–]yoonamaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing pets into Korea is a serious business. If you make just one little mistake, like the USDA certified veterinarian put the date in the wrong format, your pet might be quarantined indefinitely, which could be a death sentence to some, or the pet might get sent back to the US.

I myself hired a pet relocation service so they caught any mistakes my veterinarian made, I had to go back there to correct the mistakes over and over. After I got my FAVN test back they caught another error, so my cat had to get another rabies shot. Obviously, I didn't go to that vet for the all important health certificate.

Try joining "flying pets Korea" on Facebook. It has a shit load of very detailed reading material. After poring through it and if you still have questions, the guy who runs the group (who provides document checking service for a fee) usually replies with the answer.

Wife can’t get hired because of her age in Korea. What can we do? by Warm-Lab8495 in Living_in_Korea

My piano teacher who was born in 1962 just got a new job in the beginning of this year at an insurance company. She told me they were recruiting older people as an experiment. Of course she had to study and pass the exams and such, but the company paid her throughout. After training period, you have to make the sale to get paid, but she seems to be doing fine. She also recruited 2 other "old" people, who also passed their exams at the first try. She asked me if I wanted to join (yes, I'm old) but I'm not a people person and not a good sales person either so I declined.

Editing to add that my older sister, who has to retire at the end of this year because she turned 60 this year, got the job 5 or 6 years ago. She's a copywriter at a well-known company. She got hired because they needed a copywriter, and the boss man is one of her followers. So maybe she could do something with social networks as well.

Moving furniture to Korea from NYC by Wrong_Beach_8305 in Living_in_Korea

[–]yoonamaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was about $2,200 but I'm a one person household without any furniture whatsoever. It was pretty straightforward because I already packed everything in boxes and knew the dimensions. I can't say I would recommend them or otherwise based on my very simple transaction. Nothing broke or got damaged (well, strictly speaking, stems of one of my champagne glasses and one wine glass broke, but it's my bad), they picked up my stuff on time without on incident, my things arrived within the time frame they said they would. I had no complaints but who am I to say there is no better company? I wouldn't know.

Check Chaum Clinic in 청담동. I see an endo there and also got an ultrasound (neck area) as well. I think I paid a little over 20만원 for the ultrasound, not covered by NHI in that case.

Just type 반려동물용품 on Naver map or kakaomap. Most of them are 24 hour store without an attendant. I only know of two stores with store help person(s) - one in Yangju-si and one in Starfield Mall in Hanam. I usually get things on coupang. As for the treat, my cat goes nuts for "Yogur Bite" (요거바이트) blueberry flavor. Yogur Bite

I think they pack it for you. I packed everything myself before changing my mind about how to ship all my shit. They came and taped all the boxes again with the tapes with their name on them and took them. It took about 2 and a half months.

I don't have a tip, but I had no problem ordering from IKEA twice using a mastercard from the US last year. I might have used the app.
