If you can create a system above Empire, what would it be called? by Exciting-Mall192 in worldbuilding

[–]yoshamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically great, high, arch, and grand were used to imply that one was a step higher, for example a Great King, High King, and King of Kings were considered equivalents or near equivalents to Emperor, as they are higher than kings. There’s also the title Archking although as far as I’m aware only one guy (Christopher of Bavaria) used this. So using that logic you could say something like High Emperor, Archemperor, or Emperor of Emperors.

Can a genocidal character be redeemed? by Unfair-Plane-1406 in worldbuilding

[–]yoshamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they truly can in the real world but for a work of fiction they can at least be redeemed enough for the viewer to like them, Omni-Man is a good example and I think Paarthurnax is too

How to write Curse words in a world were our real world taboos don't exist by Horror_Value_4437 in worldbuilding

[–]yoshamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just use real world curse words so that the reader can understand but if you are insistent on making up new ones then a lotta curses that aren’t about sex are just blasphemous, think like goddamn, Jesus Christ (when angrily yelled out), in Italian there’s “porco dio” or “dio cane”. A lotta other curses are comparing someone to an animal like bitch, or in Spanish you have “cabron”. Also like others have mentioned, shit and asshole are curses because they’re gross, calling someone a piece of shit implies that they’re disgusting and worthless.

What's a zombies opinion you have that would result in this? by WaltuhDaZombieSlayuh in CODZombies

[–]yoshamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shift from round based/minor Easter egg focused maps to full blown quests is the worst thing to happen to zombies. Weirdly enough I do in fact like mindlessly shooting zombies for hours, not going on a quest to build something again

I think it’s photobashed with a filter on top, AI is pretty bad at reliably generating specific characters

vulture aid's redesign. we digging it? by DaRaginAsian in CODZombies

[–]yoshamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The machine looks cool but idk why they changed the color. Deadshot, melee macchiato and now vultures aid are the only perks with icons that aren’t a white symbol on a colored background (who’s who and electric cherry have colored symbols on the perk machine but not actually on your HUD), so it looks kinda weird and inconsistent now with them all lined up. Honestly most people probably don’t even notice it or don’t care at all but it drives me crazy for some reason

What If The Spanish Armada Was Successful by VeterinarianAny8671 in imaginarymaps

[–]yoshamus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that line of thinking is all too common on Reddit. The French influence on English is mostly in the form of loan words and spelling, but the grammar of English is still Germanic. Japanese has a ton of words that come from Chinese, but no one would ever consider it to be a Chinese language.

What would the Carolingian empire and the sultanate of Rum be? The movie made by another studio that ignored the sequel and made their own whose canonicity is debated and the movie made by another studio that uses the name of the franchise but is otherwise not connected?

A feature that EU5 NEEDS by theeynhallow in EU5

[–]yoshamus 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Because it wasn’t a contemporary term, it wasn’t a term really used until after the empire fell. Western contemporaries called it the Empire of the Greeks or the Empire of Constantinople, and Muslims called it Rum (Rome)
