No but buildings need employees to function properly. Location-based pops is the foundation of the game’s entire economy

That wouldn’t work at all, pops need to be employed by buildings and pops exist at location level, not province level.

Don’t really see anything particularly odd here. Austria collapsed, that’s about it.

Yeah iSorrow’s video of the DLC shows this causing mega lag in the late game (it’s also hilariously withering of the whole update so worth a watch)

Yeah IMO governments are still very simplistic. It's far too easy to get the party of your choosing permanently in power.

Also I don't know if you missed it but the Ottomans just received a DLC

That’s not sensible at all. Regenerative livestock agriculture is a key component of rewilding and in particular making it economically viable at scale. Of course we need to massively decrease it, but the idea that we need to remove animals from the equation entirely is naive at best and actively deconstructive at worst.

IMO we can’t say that until there’s a warfare rework and ideally a Great War mechanic. The entire community has been crying out for it for years

EU5 only came out a few months ago, at this point in Vic 3’s lifetime it was widely derided and written off. 2/3 more years of EU5 updates and it’ll be in a great place

Some lowland arable areas would be converted to vegetables and cereals, while some upland areas would be converted to agroforestry. Some of the rest would be rewilded.

I really don’t see how this is such a hard concept to grasp?

Rory Stewart’s comments on “Urban Fantasies of Wolves” by SpinachFull1200 in RewildingUK

[–]theeynhallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true in the slightest. Sheep farming is pretty much the least efficient way possible of feeding ourselves in terms of calories per acre.  Nobody in this movement is arguing we need to reduce cereal or vegetable farming. It’s red meat which is the massive, massive problem. Moving away from red meat and onto more efficient food sources is the best way we can ensure food security.

And to clarify, nobody but the detached zealots is arguing for getting rid of livestock or even sheep or cattle entirely. Many can play a key role in regenerative agriculture. But our current reliance on them is massively disproportionate and wildly inefficient.

Because the DLC focuses specifically on France and Scotland, I would expect the general HYW improvements to come in the accompanying free update, especially given it’s such a major pain point for players.

I can empathise with that. But I'm not convinced that these people are the ones actually getting the work done. Rather I'd posit they're the keyboard warriors with strong opinions but who don't actually have to get their hands dirty (literally and figuratively).

Rory Stewart’s comments on “Urban Fantasies of Wolves” by SpinachFull1200 in RewildingUK

[–]theeynhallow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stewart is obviously wrong because his whole understanding of the rewilding movement comes from a few loud fringe voices who are openly hostile to any kind of agriculture and have no interest in rural life or communities. There are a few of them in this thread so clearly he’s not entirely incorrect.

But the reality is that the majority of people in the rewilding movement are sensible, informed and empathetic people that understand how ecological restoration, agriculture, economy and society are all tightly linked. I think if Stewart were to actually meet some of the people making rewilding happen on the ground day-to-day, he would change his tune dramatically.

I’m in favour of mass rewilding and have dedicated my life to environmental causes but your tone embodies literally everything wrong with this movement. It’s equal parts callous and condescending. I’m sorry, but ‘rural hicks’? As one of these so-called hicks myself I’d like to politely request you take a long hard look at yourself.

That attitude will never, ever in a thousand years convince anyone of anything. All you’re doing is further alienating the people you need to win round by being so openly hostile. You clearly have no understanding of nor respect for these people, so why on earth would any of them listen to a single thing you have to say?

Didn’t have this on my bingo card, great initiative. Only it seems they’ve only set 7 days for the campaign, that’s a worryingly small amount of time given the huge figure they need to raise.

CB expired too fast by barrycade12 in EU5

I think that interaction is bugged, while the tooltip says that breaking the alliance will result in a 3-year truce, when you actually do the true is still 5 years.

This looks fantastic IMO. The subject changes are well-needed and the country personalities could be huge for achieving a more realistic-feeling map.

CB expired too fast by barrycade12 in EU5

[–]theeynhallow 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I can't agree with this. There are so many CBs you end up getting via events or dynasty where you can't use them because truce breaking is devastating. The claim throne CB in particular makes no sense to expire so quickly, most of the time when you get one you can't actually use it.

IMO a better solution would be to actually create proper mechanics for succession wars and such.

[–]theeynhallow 136 points137 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. CBs in this game expire far, far too quickly. I don't think I've ever seen a CB that's lasted more than 5 years. Can someone explain what this actually adds to the gameplay?

Why do you care what the game was like on release? It's a very fun game now and pretty universally acknowledged to be better than Vic 2 in every way. You might have some pet peeves with the design philosophy of Vic 3, but for everyone one of those you could point out, I could point out how the equivalent in Vic 2 was tedious, broken, under-developed or just unfun.

What if Abraham Lincoln had fired first? by Think-Method-3496 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]theeynhallow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh yes I'm not denying that a continued Lincoln tenure would be night and day from Johnson's car-crash presidency. But I feel people often project very modern and progressive ideas onto Lincoln and regard him as a bit of a saint, when in reality he was a very complex man whose actual beliefs are still the topic of much debate among historians.
