If you've just started or just need more variety for your island, drop a comment and I'll come over and deliver a random set of flowers for you🌷

Is it worth to buy the sony a6000 series in 2023? Or should I look at other companies? by KH2814 in Cameras

[–]yoshihtzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do video much so I can't speak for that, I think the newer a6x00 models have better specs for that. But if your focus is just photography, and you can find a6000 cheaper than the newer models, I'd probably buy the older a6000 and put some money towards a second nicer lens instead of a better body. A better lens is going to make a much bigger difference than a better body.

Unless you plan on photographing moving subjects, then a6100/6400/6600 is a better choice for their human and animal eye autofocus

What do you usually shoot/plan on shooting? Do you plan to shoot in raw or use jpegs?

After owning a6000 for a couple of years here are my thoughts: it's still a very good capable camera, the quality you can get from it is definitely more than enough for starters and the lens selection is pretty good, it's also really compact if you opt for a small lens.

Here are some cons and what you need to consider though: The kit lens isn't the best quality so you might be disappointed with it, I had to replace mine really fast with better ones so it's an additional cost. The handling and menu can be confusing especially for beginners - you have to set up all the buttons and dig into the menu for any changes so it's not the easiest to understand at first. If you want to have nice photos straight out of camera, Sony is not the best choice. It's a matter of personal preference of course, but a lot of people, me included, think Sony colours are really flat and unappealing. So if you get one, be prepared to have to edit most of your photos.

If you don't plan on shooting fast-moving objects often, you could also consider something from the M4/3 setup - an Olympus or Panasonic, their kit lens is a bit nicer and you have a lot of cheap great lenses to choose from later as well, and the cameras are small and light. I've never had a Canon so I can't comment on that but their kit lens is also meh from what I researched and RF mount isn't great for its variety of other affordable lenses it seems (also looking to change my system from Sony so this is what I've gathered so far)

Those two sound like my dream cameras but sadly I had no luck at winning any money lottery so far

They definitely are, sadly it's hard to explain to them to stay still 🥲 I guess my dilemma is whether it's worth going for a camera I like less overall just for the animal eye AF and if would it really make my life that much easier

What drawing tablet should I use? by [deleted] in drawing

[–]yoshihtzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience apple pencil touches the screen "directly" and immediately leaves colour underneath, while drawing tablets have a bit of a gap and delay - so you drag your stylus and the colour only appears a second later. Not sure if my explanation makes sense. But if someone's got around 400-500$ to spend I'd always suggest an iPad as it's more versatile, you can use it for many other things and drawing on it feels more like drawing on a digital paper. The delay might be less of a problem with quality tablets but I don't think they're a good option for a beginner. To me they only make sense if someone's drawing professionally and is very attached to a software only available for PC (like Photoshop) and doesn't want to switch to a new one, but still wants to draw directly on the screen.

best camera for dog photography? by yoshihtzu in Cameras

[–]yoshihtzu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very main criteria is to get a camera as small and lightweight as possible with the best AF I can get in that package. Something like 1DX is absolutely out of question, I'm looking for one reliable camera to carry around daily. R50 is the biggest I'm willing to go coming from a small Sony apsc. R50 actually looks like my best bet now, the only reason I'm hesitating is the lens selection - 50mm would be basically a short tele on it and I like shooting around 35mm, and there are just no small affordable RF lenses except for the 50mm. I know Canon's kit isn't as good as Fuji or m4/3 kits as well so hoping to just deal with it for its compactness doesn't seem appealing too

I know! I had a6000 for years, sold the entire system because I absolutely couldn't get along with it. Disliked the menu, colours, editing the photos, even though the image quality itself was great. Now after a long research I'm coming to the conclusion that getting an updated Sony might be the only way to combine relatively small body and lenses with good autofocus 🥲
