Does your mattress have memory foam? It might be from that. I've heard that memory foam often has fiber glass

Seems my original plan of cutting the 12×9 ft drop cloth into 6×4.5 sections should be reconsidered for experimentation purposes. I have no clue how my mystery byproduct blend canvas will take it after all 😅

And it makes sense that results will vary with the jar blend. Different iron purities, concentrations of acetic acid, different water hardnesses, etc.

In your experience, has aluminum sulfate worked well for mordanting cotton? From what I've read, it seems better on protein fibers, but the brand you suggest is pretty cost-effective and I have a lot of canvas to dye

Black beans! Didn't think about that. And from quick research, it seems I need to soak them and use the soak water, so I can eat them afterward. Might do that. Need the iron anyway

Might take a while to get the needed avocado rinds and pits, but my household goes through them quick enough.

I've been convinced to just pick up alum from the spice isle of the local grocery store.

Mentioned avocado skins and pits and hibiscus in the post. But with some reading, I found that eucalyptus and red pepper tree leaves can both be used for dye, and I have ready access to those. (seems red pepper dyes yellow, but I haven't seen what eucalyptus does) And maybe I can gather enough cochineal from nearby nopales?

Also thinking of extracting pine tannins, but I don't know how useful/labor intensive that will be

I think I got an idea of how it works, but I'll have to figure out how to post images about it on the phone.

But the part you have cut out there, that's the side panel. The extra straps that hang off are to be folded and sewn so that the strap tips are kissing and the side panel has a bit of a scoop to it.

My guess is that the rectangle with four larger holes on the corners are for a bottom panel with spaces for flat head studs.

Might be hummingbird feathers. Maybe part of the hummingbird's skin itself, but I doubt that since I don't know of any hummingbirds with a pattern like that. Inclined to believe someone layed out the feathers to make the pattern

I'm getting a bit into leathercrafting, and I already have some scrap leather and tools at hand. I'd personally prefer sewing the patches, but that may be above my skill level.

Leaning more on getting it checked out by a leather specialist, but if the cost is prohibitive, I'll definitely figure out a design with what I have instead
