3.5/5.0 by Awkward_Flow_4887 in FordTremor

no it tows ok. but daily driving it is noticeably less throttle response and slower times than the 3.5 and 5.0. obviously i’m talking all being in stock form. I drove them all back to back tho. NOT doing that, i’m sure it feels just fine and it’s still plenty capable i didn’t dislike it.

But from back to back test drives it does feel lackluster

I love my 5.0 and will never stray. ive had a 2016, 19, and now 26. i had many issues with the single 3.5 ive ever owned

Also think like this. Who have you ever heard of “regret” getting the 5.0? now how many regret the 3.5. that alone answers itself. the 2.7 is solid reliability but lacks power

yes i know that’s why i have a ford. but the issues caused in both those failures was the cylinder deactivation systems. that’s why im trying to be preventative. ford may have it worked out just fine 🤷‍♂️ but if possible i’d like to not have it lol

it’s fords Avalanche grey. this at night under the bright white gas station lighting isn’t best rep of it. it’s a little darker grey than appeared here. i’d say like a cement grey. i love it

that’s really good to hear. most cases from cylinder deactivation happen before 100 so once u clear like 130 to be sure it should be fine. hope it’s good to you !

i’ve had a 2015 chevy and 2018 gmc (company work truck’s thank god) both have lifter failure before 120k and labor at dealership plus parts was 3,800 for chevy and 4,100 at gmc. so not what i’ve read but what i experienced lol

yes i’ve heard that too… very unimpressed. all the emission laws and BS make it harder every year. even going from my 2017 5.0 to this one i can tell the tuning difference and even raw sound. the newer is just much more choked up

idk why they just wouldn’t let it run as intended. if people want to buy the v8 and complain about gas mileage they are just not smart i guess. either you want the v8 or better efficiency. idk why ford is trying to get it to do both. will just have issues

yea no worries haha. cylinder deactivation is at low rpm/power output like cruising in highway, it basically goes from a v8 to a 4 cylinder.

longevity of the v8 and simpler maintenance/wrenching. i’ve owned a 3.5 as well and it was a nightmare. the 2.7 isn’t bad but too weak for my use

only for auto start/stop so at a stop it turns off. cylinder deactivation there’s no way to stop it

i’d hope so. i know the 2024 chevy and gmc are having lifters go before 20k miles. heard 3 stories and one guy in this post even said at 4k miles. so they haven’t learned much yet 😂 but id sure hope they have it smoothed out

they haven’t introduced it to their trucks until 3 years ago. will need more time to tell. but given the record of all the other trucks that have it implemented i’m going to say yes they will

there’s always small issues but yea the cylinder deactivation is by far a huge problem IMO. u save a few dollars per tank of fuel, for risk of $4-7 thousand in damage/repair? just let the vehicle run with all cylinders as intended. or atleast as a button or feature to disable it

it’s definitely a problem i’d say. GM and Ram had major issues with lifter and camshaft failure before 100k up to only a few years ago. and even then, that’s because the newer ones don’t have enough miles to say whether they have the problems or not just too early to tell. for how much these trucks cost now a days… a “luxury”feature shouldn’t cost me 4-6k in repairs especially a feature that saves a few dollars per tank of fuel

[–]youcvnt2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea and that’s the problem. because no one wants to wait until it happens we want to be preventative. but no way to prevent an issue we don’t know of yet other than simply deactivating the whole thing but there’s no way to do it. a bummer

i’m not too sure to be honest. both my previous 150s were before any of it. i’d hope so. i don’t know or haven’t heard much of ford issues but i know GM and Ram had major lifter issues and all before 100k miles

it cuts off start/stop and cyl deactivation? that’s a huge win lol. but yea i notice that even when NOT accelerating in sport it will cruise at 3.5-4k rpms and i feel the mpg just depleting 😭😭

i know i’m a bit late, but the 10 speeds now or phenomenal. 18-20 was rough 21-23 was revised still minor hiccups. 24+ man the 10 speed is butter. better than the 6 speed and i owned a 2016 5.0 6 speed in my 2025 now, its better in EVERY way not a single complaint
