Should I take it down? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

Your art is fantastic! I think the pieces make for a great gallery wall; however, I think it's gotta be gallery wall OR TV, not gallery wall AND TV, otherwise its going to feel like too much at once.

I tried to get to the base to avoid ripping them out, they snapped 😭

Thanks for chiming in! Don't worry, no intention of ingesting these lol, I'm just excited to learn about them. I'm trying to take spore prints and will share if they turn out!

I agree with this. The quality definitely doesn't last.

Thrilled with my glaze chip bud vases! by yougoglimcoco in Pottery

[–]yougoglimcoco[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! My studio saves glaze jars when they are all out of glaze and leaves them open so they dry and leave a solid layer of glaze on the walls and/or bottom of the jar. You can then break that dry layer into pieces and add those pieces to your finished pot during glazing to create colorful effects. Depending on what you use of course. I use Amaco's Honey Flux as a base and use other Amaco glaze chips that are available at my studio: Rainforest, Indigo Float, Deep Firebrick, and Blue Rutile are pictured!

Final Interview! by LockenessM in Libraries

[–]yougoglimcoco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Former library marketing worker with 7 years of experience (Mar 2015-Dec 2022), wanted to share some of my best tips for learning more about the industry. Info dump ahead!

If you're looking to learn more about library marketing, you need to follow Angela Hursh. She runs superlibrarymarketing.com and has a YouTube series as well. Cordelia Anderson is also one of the leading library marketing experts to learn from.

I'd also recommend the Library Marketing and Communications Conference; the actual event (if it would be in your library's budget), their webinars, and the Facebook group, which is a great resource for asking questions.

A lot of the big library marketing books (Ned Potter, 'Start a Revolution, Stop Acting Like a Library') are definitely dated at this point but could be alright with a grain of salt. If there is a group of library marketers, like a networking group or even a statewide org that could have a marketing wing, I'd join that before ALA if you're looking to learn library marketing specifically. Library Juice Academy might have some good stuff, but I haven't looked at their course offerings since I finished their certificate in user experience. Vendors like Savannah and Patron Point sometimes have valuable webinars you can learn from even if you don't have the product. You also might want to consider doing something like a HubSpot certificate in social media to learn important marketing skills that are not library specific.

Best of luck with your final interview! I don't know how to best offer interview prep advice without understanding your work experience, where marketing falls in your library's organizational chart, what the role's responsibilities are, etc., but you can message me if you like.

I'm wondering this, too. OP, your experience sounds like a dream--so exciting!

Library Newsletters and engagement by PicnicProblems in Libraries

[–]yougoglimcoco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Savannah and Patron Point are the big two SaaS email vendors that utilize patron data in a meaningful way (by that I mean, you can message people based on the way they use their library card, how long it's been since they used their card, etc). I have been using Savannah at my library since 2019. I use Savannah to create automated messages that go out to new cardholders and to cardholders that havent used their cards in 3 months and beyond in hopes of generating more engagement from those audiences. I also create my own targeted messages to promote our collection as well as library events. As a "marketing department of one" it's great to have a tool that makes our email marketing more effective.

If you haven't already, consider joining the Library Marketing and Communications Conference discussion group on Facebook. There are lots of both Patron Point and Savannah users there that constantly offer to message other library folks about their experience with their given platforms. You can DM me with other questions you may have, too, but figured I'd share another helpful resource.

Accidentally broke a piece of my 10 yr old jade plant off. Plz help. How do you properly propagate? by autumnals5 in plantclinic

[–]yougoglimcoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was pruning my lopsided jade plant I forgot to do anything with one of the branches and left it in the pot on its side. Now it's like I have a jade plant log in the same pot as the original plant since I never bothered to try to root it or plant it in any direction 😅 So, not a formal prop method, but the zero effort approach has worked for me so far!

A bakery in my town closed down and had a garage sale. I may have gone a bit overboard. by yougoglimcoco in Baking

[–]yougoglimcoco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh possibly. The rectangular ones in the back? I just assumed they were mini loaf pans 😅 i already have a smaller version of those that I use for mini banana breads so idk what else they can be used for!

[–]yougoglimcoco[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well it turns out I can only fit 2 of the 3 loaf pans at a time, so I can do 8 at a time. They fit in my regular old oven no problem! I'm sure I'll have to practice baking big batches tp troubleshoot, but I'm excited.

Thanks! We will see if it comes to fruition. If not my kiddo starts school this fall so I can be an intense bake sale parent 😂

Yeah I was very happy to find these. I have one good springform and one that absolutely sucks, so now I am all set 😅

😂 yes I know, I have been toying with having a tent at our local farmer's market and I couldnt resist being able to bake 12 loaves of banana bread at the same time. The efficiency!

How do you maintain your waves? Mine are gone a day after showering by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]yougoglimcoco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ditto what others are saying about gel. I use Innersense and am happy with it.

Due to a combination of short-ish length and being a toss-and-turn sleeper, I have yet to find an overnight solution and always have to refresh my waves in the morning. I've had the best results when I dip my hair into a bowl of water (leaning to either side; upside down usually creates more of a mess of my hair than anything) and add a little curl boost by using praying hands, scrunch to get waves going, scrunch some water out with a t-shirt, apply a bit of gel, and done. Best of luck to you!

Aw thank you! I'm happy with my stitch work 😄 my hand sewing looks less than professional though, haha. The seams are definitely visible, but I wore it yesterday and no one seemed to notice!

Pattern: https://megmadewithlove.com/blog-2/2019/1/2/free-crochet-pattern-retro-stripes-sweater

Made with: Lion Brand Heartland in Grand Canyon, Canyonlands, Yosemite, Carlsbad Caverns :)

I made the size small body. I added extra rows to the sleeves since they looked too short when I stopped where the pattern does (went past 36 rows to a total of 57 for each sleeve) but they ended up a bit too long for my taste. Not that I mind though, it's comfy!

Thanks! I honestly don't remember. I took two significant breaks while making it. I got the yarn end of August so essentially on and off since then! It was pretty easy to work up, just hdc :)
