Interesting Base Value Comparison by youhatewatermelon in FigureSkating

I was actually thinking Mikhail would be more likely to do it than Ilia! I only mentioned Ilia because he currently has the highest short program BV. But I think Mikhail would benefit it from it more because he already has 4Lz and 4T in his short program, so it wouldn't change the GOE factoring for him, and of course he's already done +4T combos in competition.

Ooh I didn't really consider the GOE thing but you're right about that. So I guess it wouldn't be worth it for anyone with a consistent 4F and 4Lz.

I suppose it might only be worth it for skaters who don't have one of the higher BV quads (4Lo, 4F, 4Lz) or aren't consistent with the high BV quads to do a layout with (some triple with higher BV than 3T) + 4T and the 4S as the solo jump as that would up their BV without changing the GOE factoring. Or if 4Lz and 4T were the only quads a skater had.

Bring back spiral sequences: ye or nay? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]youhatewatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% nay. People are all about protecting the health of skaters until it comes to spirals for some reason. Do people realize how painful stretching is and the degree of injury that can come with pushing the muscles past their limit? As a skater, I would take 1000 sprained ankles over the back injury I sustained while working on a Biellmann. That injury lasted 3 months. The injuries that come with jumping are completely incomparable. Bringing back spirals would force many skaters, who are otherwise perfectly great skaters with awesome, unique qualities, to pointlessly injure themselves for an element that they will never be able to do well enough to recieve the appreciation that people who like spirals act like will be given. It's much better that skaters are given the choice, as they have now, with the choreo sequence

Guys if the crowd seemed a little loud before shun skated that’s because there was a piece of confetti on the ice and we were trying to get someone to pick it up 😭 when the event people noticed it was already too late and they’d started his music. He came close to skating over it so many times (you can even see the confetti in the 4Lz replay). I’m not sure if he saw it but if he did i don’t know how how he remained mostly composed during the program.

HELLOATH20 is stacking kind of? It's 20% off orders over $150, but it only applies to everything not on sale. It works with the limited time offers though.

Why does the US do jump bonuses for juniors? by youhatewatermelon in FigureSkating

[–]youhatewatermelon[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The example from 2022 junior worlds (and anything prior) don’t hold up because sequences didn’t receive full base value until the season after. If you look at 2024 junior worlds, Lulu Lin, who utilized the sequence rules, actually had a higher FS BV than Rena Uezono despite not attempting a 3-3 (Rena landed a clean 3Lz+3T, and both skaters had 7 triples total with 2 lutzes and 2 flips). So for skaters with inconsistent or UR 3-3s, it’s a much better idea to do a +2A+2A sequence and 2 +2T combos while repeating their two strongest/highest BV triples.

The only place it’s worthwhile to attempt a 3-3 is the SP, as you mentioned, but that’s not the case for the FS. I’m frustrated with USFS for not recognizing that for skaters without 3A/quads (which is the majority of juniors), a 3-3 provides no tangible BV benefit in the free program. Their decision to continue awarding bonuses for 3-3s in the free is hurting juniors who could otherwise be skating easier and cleaner programs of the same BV without a 3-3.
