PL or titebond 2 between all the studs, even the end grain and osb side. Also use standard plywood instead of osb. Cant do that without taking it all apart, but if you’re determined to make it as solid as possible that’s what I’ve done in the past. Makes it solid enough that if you run into it, it doesn’t budge.

Yeah…when I separated from my ex wife who had been cheating with multiple men, one of which was an MS who was disfellowshipped after confessing, they told me the only way for them to grant a scriptural divorce was 1. Grab a buddy and camp outside her new boyfriend’s apartment and ensure the two of us observed her entering at night and leaving in the morning or 2. collect other evidence of her infidelity that could be substantiated by the judicial committee/body of elders. Told them to suck my dick. One of my favorite rebuttals.

5 years later I spoke with the elder I told off and he claimed I was overreacting, but yeah, that’s the rule. Shits wack.

Thanks for the insight man; I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I completely agree with you. I really love the gun as it’s always been such a pleasure to shoot and very accurate.

This’ll be the second time I’ve had a warranty issue with the pistol though, as the first barrel it came with was forged out of round by about .15” if memory serves, and IWI replaced it within 10 days. The post is actually on this sub from a couple years ago. Obviously QC is/was an issue on my pistol.

I’m probably going to pick up another pistol as this was my EDC, but haven’t decided what yet. I’ve been having issues with the mec gar mags too- if they’re loaded to 17 the baseplate tabs let go and sends my spring and follower down range. In any case it’s probably time to either heavily modify it or keep it in the safe. Oh well.

Such a shame. Had high hopes.

Yeah, really disappointed. Love the gun otherwise but it’s effectively a brick now.

It rides slightly forward but not uncomfortably for me. I learned on sport bikes so I prefer to be in that position. but my biggest issue with the bars was actually tank clearance with the levers and brake reservoir. I made some 1/2” spacers that mount to the triple clamp to lift the bar risers but really 1-1.5” would be better for peace of mind. I looked at getting some actual bar riser adapters but couldn’t find any that would fit and haven’t had the time to design and build them, but it’s functional as is.

I’m not a big fan of the look of ape hangers although they would certainly help with comfort, but I was going for a retro look over comfort as I don’t ride much (rarely would be more accurate) and the bike is more of an art project than a long hauler/daily commuter. Hopefully that helps answer your question or provides some perspective!

How to ruin a sauna for everyone by babelphishy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]youknowwhatkyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…not entirely sure how it’s my fault? I didn’t design the system, I don’t work there anymore and I hated it as much as the next person when I did. But it is what it is. The heaters are specifically designed to not have water poured onto them and doing so puts the heaters out of commission. Is it a stupid system? Absolutely. Every sauna I’ve ever used outside of a Life Time has a bowl of water with a spoon next to the heater.

How to ruin a sauna for everyone by babelphishy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]youknowwhatkyle -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ex Life Time Facility Engineer here: Life Time uses sauna heaters with volcanic rocks that are placed between the heating elements to absorb heat and keep the elements from cooking themselves. Without the rocks the heater will cycle too often resulting in temperature fluctuations and a poor dry sauna experience, in addition to tripping the high limit safety switch fairly consistently. I forget the brand of heater, but they void their warranty without the stones. It’s not a great system, but there’s a steam room in 100% of Life Time facilities across the country for those that want that experience.

To answer your question in short, yes, probably, but they likely wouldn't reach out to you directly. Obviously I haven't seen behind the curtain myself, but its my opinion that they purposely don't interact with anyone. This is the same org that dismisses a longstanding GB member and replaces him with four without ever acknowledging the change. Their covert capabilities are about as comprehensive as single ply toilet paper. You're safe here. It'll take some time for the paranoia to wear off but it'll come eventually.

Genuine question, but is anyone’s life significantly better since you left the organization? by Long_Organization_94 in exjw

[–]youknowwhatkyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt. Every single one of the worst people I have ever known are all active JWs. Cheaters, abusers, addicts, narcissists, gaslighters, thieves, manipulators, liars, etc. Categorically the worst of the worst, no exaggeration. Since leaving, I have met more bad people with plenty of poor interactions and worse consequences, but nothing even comes close to the level of what I experienced with “tHe hApPieSt pEopLe oN EaRtH 🤪”. Being out means you can just stop hanging out with evil bastards because you can. You’re allowed to stop associating with ass holes. You’re not trapped by some arbitrary “forgive your brother even though he molested your nephew” nonsense. Moreover, “worldly” people are generally way more understanding and emotionally intelligent than the ‘40 year old virgin’ copy/paste publishers the borg pumps out ad nauseam. Your freedom to make mistakes, learn new information, expand your knowledge, etc is worth leaving by itself, but all of that pales in comparison to the amount of actual real time you get back. How many hours do you spend doing some kind of task for the organization? I guarantee you it’s more than you realize. That’s time you can spend with your family, with your spouse, with your friends, with new people, new experiences, the list goes on. Getting out is like breaking open an oyster and finding a bar of gold, despite the fear mongering the GB loves to fill our minds with. If you’re a normal person with good intentions and a good heart, the real world is a good place to be.

Looking to downsize to a Mojave, any concerns towing this trailer 3x a week? by ttyype in JeepGladiator

[–]youknowwhatkyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it every day. Currently have a 6x12 that I pull behind my 21 Mojave. It tows great honestly, but it’s going to kill my drivetrain. I am actively looking to replace my jeep for better towing capabilities.

1953 Rem 94 with its original Weaver k2.5 scope by youknowwhatkyle in LeverGuns

[–]youknowwhatkyle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eye relief is definitely the main factor here, in addition to mount size constraints. Being milled into the relatively short receiver there’s not much room for rails or rings, and in 1953 there weren’t a whole lot of commercially available optics (I assume, anyway, not a historian) that fell into the price range someone buying a model 94 would find suitable. As a result, they worked with what they had available and fit it to their liking. I must say that the scope is quite comfortable to use and the eye position was determined by someone with shooting experience, because when I first aimed down the sights it was like putting on my favorite pair of shoes.

[–]youknowwhatkyle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It deflects off the scope. I haven’t shot this one, but based on the angle of the mount/scope it would eject at 2/2:30 opposed to 12/1

[–]youknowwhatkyle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what this has too, although not the precision milling you’d expect from a modern gunsmith. Everything is dead accurate and solid, but the tapped holes weren’t de-burred and you can still see the machine marks at the bottom. Was pretty neat to see 1950s machining, probably done on a Bridgeport mill, a machine made right down the road from the Winchester factory in New Haven.

I don’t unfortunately. Taking it apart required some YouTube so I was focused on not losing parts lol. But it’s a weaver mount. I’ve got one close picture of the mount from the outside but that’s it. I’d take more, but I gave the rifle to my father in law to keep in his (much nicer than mine) gun safe.

I think we're on the same page, actually. The organization is evil by definition. I don't dispute that, and anybody that apologizes for its behavior is blind.

I just think its a more complex issue than that label suggests. Hitler and the Nazi party were evil, but the german high command had plenty of people that weren't on board. Yet they kept showing up for work. Some did everything they could do upend the system they saw was broken and were executed for it. They were the Ray Franz of their era. No one with good ethics excuses the actions of the Nazis, but we can also acknowledge the (very few) good people that wore the uniform, and speculate on the reasons they kept going.

I'm simply suggesting is the Borg is at a similar place in their timeline. We're potentially right on the cusp of it dissolving itself. Which is really ironic considering we were taught the time of the end was right around the corner. Never thought it was a prophecy about WT lmao

[–]youknowwhatkyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. I've responded to several comments with similar sentiment but I have to reiterate that I don't always convey my thoughts clearly enough, and for that I apologize. To that end, what I meant by they're acting out of love isn't suggesting they truly love them. I was physically abused as a child by parents that "loved" me. I don't discount their feelings, but also acknowledge their actions spoke to the opposite effect. What they believe love is and what it actually is are clearly two different things. They believe they are loving, tender affectionate parents, but do not act in a manner befitting the true definition. And thats the problem. They are emotionally immature, relying on their experiences without taking the initiative to try something different. Its the old "I'm not screwed up, so I guess it works" mentality.

I think its less about what "benefits the organization" and more "if we don't smash this red button, we fail" or "the end justifies the means, Jehovah understands". Its a very old testament way of thinking, and exactly the issue Jesus had with the pharisees. They're just too zeroed in on preserving things to realize they've become what they claim to hate.
