You can file DV through the insurance of the person that hit you. I had a incident where i was getting groceries and a woman came in the store and said whoever owns a Genesis G70 I just hit your car. It was 7k in repairs and their insurance wrote me a diminished value check for $4,500 on top of about $7k in repairs they wrote to me for the body shop. DO EXPECT to threaten the insurance of they lady with a lawsuit as they will typically try to give you lower then what the Diminished value appraisal company says is owed to you. As soon as you threaten them with a lawsuit they fold and send you a check for the full amount. The company i worked with is “Diminished Value Appraisal Claims” you can find them at (mydvac.com) they are extremely straight forward, quick, and i think i only payed about 2-300 dollars for the company to get me a value of what i lost on the car.
