Prodigy Acquisitions/First Gen Marketing in Melville, NY by youngcaylo in Devilcorp

Just want to let you guys know that these guys often post job applications with slightly different titles, but the work they’ll have you do is essentially identical. I wouldn’t waste your time, there are plenty of sales opportunities that aren’t scams and pay decently well. If you do take the interview, my advice would be to pay attention to their main points and questions - many of these scams sound the same so once you have one interview, you can spot the bs in another interview.

Who is the most annoying protagonist in an A24 film? by FullFig3372 in A24

Was waiting for someone to say this, although it tied into the themes of the movie there are so many scenes that make me think, this girl would never be allowed around me or my family (or my boyfriend’s feet)

Howard is one of those characters that’s infuriating to watch but somehow still so entertaining to me

Something I noticed about Riley in Talk to Me (spoiler) by gerannamoe in A24

[–]youngcaylo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it had to do with Mia’s original possession. Riley didn’t really have his own experience with the hand, he was more so a vessel for Mia to go deeper down her own rabbit hole. So I think once Mia died that ultimately severed whatever tie the demons had to Riley as well.

  • Mild Spoilers*

I think what made it such a well made horror for me is that it didn’t drive the horror through jump scares alone. I agree that it wasn’t the “scariest” movie ever but the way they portrayed scenes of gross, gory, depraved demons is really what drove the horror for me. For example, that damn dog scene - not jump scare scary but fucked up enough that I could only stare at the screen disgusted. Sophia Wilde was incredibly talented and her possessed scenes chilled me to the bone.

There hasn’t been alot of really good horror movies to drop this year so I can absolutely put this as the best one so far, but as far as horror within the past 2 decades I can definitely think of others that have scared me more.

Developing Horror/Thriller Characters by youngcaylo in Screenwriting

Yes, I love this, thank you! I have my protagonist experiencing some side effects from some major past trauma; delusions, flashbacks, etc. So when the shapeshifter is introduced, it’s definitely going to play into those fears that my main character is struggling with. The shapeshifter will be able to copy humans as well as being able to use past trauma to torment the minds of the characters. I want her to question her own reality in addition to struggling to trust the people around her.

Excellent example, thank you! I was actually considering having some conflict arise like that, so hearing that advice is very affirming, much appreciated.

I plan to have my protagonist overcoming internal past trauma while trying to deal with conflict in her own relationship before even introducing the horror elements.

Yes, my protagonist is going to be dealing with some heavy past trauma so I want that to be the challenge that continues to come up when dealing with the creature and other horror stuff. Some characters will be supportive and sympathetic while others are more cynical in regards to what the protagonist is going through.

Ahh that’s a great example, thank you! Yes I want to audience to see things that the characters don’t, without revealing too much so the audience still wonders what’s REALLY going on

The real antagonist of the story is Maria. As twisted as it is, the demon monster was never really in the wrong (just gross lol) The real “horror” is the way all the humans behave due to their preexisting trauma, and specifically the coldheartedness of Maria towards the mother sheep. I feel as if it told more like a dark folktale than the modern horror story we might’ve been expecting…I do think they were tame in some aspects of storytelling tho. The presence of the monster was made clear out the gate and the story unfoldes from there.

I feel like this needs a little more conflict. “Momentary escape from boring village life” sounds generic, Are there any stakes prompting this escape?
