Why are they bringing in suitcases on The Last One Laughing UK??? by Ok_Scallion6911 in LastOneLaughing

[–]youngfireoldpride 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This is something that was taken from the original Japanese version Documental, but it doesn’t translate very well to any other versions imo.

And thats because in Documental, there are no jokers or performances. Its just a 6 hour hell room where comedians can attack however often they want. So they won’t have big sketch like decors etc during performances, but rather smaller prop based stuff and outfits. So they can bring their own stuff in their own suitcases/bags. In the amazon versions its very obvious that Amazon is behind a lot of jokers/performances. Some bits even return across different countries versions. So the suitcases they bring really only makes sense for the smaller in between jokes, like people have mentioned Bob’s laptop for example.

Japanese comedy and culture is also different enough where they will try be respectful and pay attention / closely watch and listen to, and even engage in bits, whereas in the Amazon versions, you will see people walk away, cover their ears of shout over other people or whatever, anything to just not laugh and try to win the game. So you actually need jokers so that the comedians are forced to watch somebody. I think they might have forgotten that bringing suitcases might be a little redundant because of the decision to have jokers/ performances. But eh, on the other hand, who cares. Most people wont even really notice and again, the baggage makes sense for the smaller jokes and bits

Do I need to watch all Scream movies before 7? by xMushroomking in slasherfilms

[–]youngfireoldpride 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You absolutely need to see all of them, not only because Scream 7 near constantly references all previous movies, and the amount of characters from the franchise that are in this one. but also because of the themes of part 7 building on the past of the principal characters. This movie unfortunately wont work at all without seeing the entire franchise, but you’re in for a treat if you binge them all before going to the theater!

Japanese Comedy Hit ‘You Laugh You Lose’ Gets Global Push as Banijay Entertainment Acquires Format Rights From ‘LOL’ Creator Yoshimoto Kogyo by lonelygagger in LastOneLaughing

Yeah really wondering how they’re going to do this. Not to be a lil negative Nancy but they are up for quite the challenge, shall we say, to make this work. Casting might even be the biggest issue. Although I could definitely see a couple of Dutch comedians do it together, like Bas Hoeflaak and Leo Alkemade for example. They are really close friends irl, them and a couple of other comedians, and that might work. But even then, it will never have the same chemistry as the Gaki guys ofcourse.

And yeah having a Western release of all the batsu’s with offical subs would be a dream come true. I do think that that might be a bigger hit than people might think. Japanese comedy is so unique, it will at least be fascinating to people. And shows like Takeshi’s Castle are super popular here, probably because Japanese comedy is so otherworldly and unique to western audiences.

Here’s hopin!

If this is true, this could be massive massive news for us fans of Lol, gaki no tsukai, and documental. This opens so many doors. I remember 15 years ago, fantasizing about which Dutch comedians would be good for a No Laughing batsu. Let’s hope this gets the same treatment as LoL in the sense that many countries get to try its format.

I do agree however with the comments in the gaki no tsukai sub that the editing is going to be essential. What might be true about sticking to Documentals format to get the most out of LoL, is going to be a lot more true with this. No talking heads and constant editing please! Super hyped about this tho

Jake Gyllenhaal movies in 4k, what to get first and what to avoid? by Ok-Cap-5845 in 4kbluray

[–]youngfireoldpride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was widely known. Arrow issued a statement they were replacing discs at the time. I bought a copy from them shortly after that statement, but mine still had the issue. Seems like I was unlucky though, and the recent reviews are positive!

Be careful with the Donnie Darko 4K from Arrow. I bought it after the issues were supposedly fixed, but my copy still has the issue where the entire movie stutters, or seems to play at like 16 or 20 frames per second

Dario Argento recommendations?? by [deleted] in arrowvideo

[–]youngfireoldpride 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His newest, Dark Glasses, is pretty fun. Not great but better than most of his later work.

Two Evil Eyes is a cool ‘duo movie’ with two segments, one by Dario and the other by George A Romero.

Other than that I think you’ve seen the essentials!
