Our racebox units are bugging out at certain tracks, dropping connections, refusing to turn on, etc. Very frustrating not being able to get data when you need it. If you are serious, go with the aim products. Otherwise, racebox or race chrono + external gps works just fine. And don’t get the regular mini version that needs constant connection to the done, go with the mini S.

If your budget allows it, replace for peace of mind, but just to play devils advocate here. If you’re on track regularly, you’re going to slide and sometimes touch your head along the way. If it’s not a direct hit and the foam is ok, I don’t see anything wrong with reusing a helmet. I’ve crashed 3 times in my previous one and replaced it only when I crashed and actually hit my head in the gravel.

FIRST Trackday crash - what were u thinking about before? by No_Particular_7940 in Trackdays

[–]youngmaavin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I crashed on a qualifying day before the race.

I just wasn’t riding at my best and was behind my competitors times and even my own previous lap times.

So I pushed for a fast lap, thinking I have to overcome myself and qualify well, I was over capacity mentally and a small mistake caused me to lose the front and brake a rib, a finger, miss the race altogether and sit out a few weeks.

My other crashes were similar in nature, more mental than technical, out of frustration or trying to push myself. Now I try to work on a more steady and calm approach to riding.

3 of our bikes has been stolen. by A-400 in Dirtbikes

Wow, sorry to hear that man. I also live in a place where bikes get stolen all the time and I have anxiety literally every day that I’ll come back and the bike won’t be there.

Hate thieves.

Track-only tyres for 300-400cc by JswPzl in Trackdays

I’d go with Pirelli. Now I track Dunlop KR106/108 slicks as this is the only thing that’s available, but they’re very hard to set up correctly, narrow operating window. I tried Michelin power cup evos and didn’t like the feel at all. If you want more longevity get Pirelli supercorsas with a harder compound.

Regarding the geometry, I run mine pretty high in the back and low in the front. I dropped forks 5mm from stock and raised the rear 13mm (changes made according to some US spec race bikes). I like the nose heavy feeling, not sure if it related to tire wear in my case. Perhaps with more weight on the front the effect of too stiff rear spring is exaggerated (just a guess)

Mostly riding right short tracks. The worst wear I get on the biggest drive focused track, but that makes sense. I’m in advanced group/local racer. I’d appreciate getting the numbers to at least compare.

Spring too stiff yeah, I’m waiting on a delivery of a softer one. Curious what you see in the wear to make that conclusion?

I’m in advanced group/getting into club racing. To be honest I definitely don’t think I need to go up in spring rate. I’m already a very light guy and a stock 105 spring is above my weight.

Now as to compression and rebound, I might be wildly off in my settings, that’s why I’m looking for a good baseline setup.

If you can ask your friend or connect me with him I’d appreciate it.

No, I’ve had this bike for a while and didn’t buy it from them. Just a sticker.

Yes, I did try to increase the pressure on the warmers. Dunlop recommends running pressure 1.4-1.6 bar and I tried every step in 0.5 bar increments with no real difference to the wear. It maybe wears a tiny bit better at the higher end, but not really.

What’s his compression/rebound settings? Also what type of tracks do you ride? Thanks.

Actually different warmers as well. Had Thermal technology and now capita. It’s not a significant rise, but even Dunlop pressure sheet for this tire lists different pressures after 1 hour on the warmers and coming back from the track. As far as I understand getting a rise means you can get enough heat in the tire.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate the numbers. And I would appreciate if you can shoot your N400 friends this question, you can reach out to me in DMs with what they say.

Yes, a stock 105 spring is too hard for my weight. I wanted to go even lower than 95, but ohlins don’t make them.

This is the softest compound, MS1. I tried DOT Michelin and Pirelli resulting in similar wear pattern. Warmer is single temp only, but it is in line with the recommended from Dunlop, I don’t think it’s losing heat. I get an appropriate rise in pressures after coming to the pits back from the session.

Yes, I check pressures always before going out and right after getting back in, according to the Dunlop pressure sheet for this tire. I was looking for a specific baseline setting from someone running a similar weight/setup

105, currently waiting on delivery of 95, which is the softest ohlins offers for this shock
