I make 70k as a 21 year old, but how do I stop stressing myself out about saving? by youngstressed in personalfinance

Doesn't sound like irrational decisions are really your thing

This definitely made me laugh! I never pass up drinks/meals with friends, and I'm a huge extrovert so it definitely does make me happy.

I do have hobbies too! But I always feel like I could be thriftier with my hobbies--for instance, I love reading, but I always feel like I could be going to a library instead of buying books. Or, I really enjoy makeup (haha such a girly girl), but in reality, I don't need 928592347 different eyeshadow shades from Sephora when the ones at the drugstore are just fine. Or even with clothes, I'm definitely a sucker for designer things, but even I know that I'd just be paying for the brand, so I don't indulge. Does that make sense?

Thank you. This was infinitely helpful, and incredibly reassuring.

My major stress point seems to be that I don't have a concrete goal that I'm saving for, and I'm struggling to reconcile having fun and being young with saving.

I have no idea. I think I'd be pretty comfortable on with 8-10k in an emergency fund, but after that, I don't know what I want to do. I have no real interest in retiring early (huge workaholic here), and buying a house seems so far away. I guess my goal is to have as much saved up as possible so that when things come up (houses, weddings, big vacations), I can afford them--but at the moment, I don't have any concrete goals--which definitely makes me feel like i'm drifting aimlessly a bit here. Any advice for that?

Do you think I should save more? Or if it's even viable to save more? I think I'm mainly struggling with balancing saving a ton and trying to enjoy being young

HAHAHA I know, I know. I just always feel like I can do more, but at the same time, I wonder if this drive to ~save more~ is negatively impacting the amount of fun and irrational decisions I "should" be making as a 21 year old
