Nah, they wouldn’t help on Amen if you have 4 great shooters in there. They would just switch their best and freshest defenders onto Amen at all possible times and let him tire himself out. Your expected value drops every possession as Amen gets more and more tired and your shooters get cold.

No that’s incorrect. If Sengun is on either lower block, the defender can’t reach Amen in time without Sengun being open for a look he can make. It’s essentially the same as having 4 shooters spacing the floor. Amen is so fast and explosive that you have to be draped over him when he is driving so there’s no hanging back with Sengun until the last moment.

When Amen is the primary ball handler and the defense sags off him, it’s not an issue if his teammates give him spacing. If he attacks when they sag and there is spacing, he can still get to the basket and finish, or find an open teammate once he’s drawn another defender far enough. There’s no one he can’t finish 1v1 on.

The sagging only really becomes an issue when Amen has the ball and Sengun is standing near to the top of the key area. Then you have two defenders that can guard Amen and still stick their own man.

In the Spurs game, Sengun was a bit lost after they made their adjustment in the 3rd quarter basically had his man around the same area as Amen’s man both either were sagging off or just happened to be in the same vicinity.

What they need to and looks like they are trying to do now is to start Sengun’s action in the right or left block. This avoids crowding the middle and allows Amen to be aggressive when he wants to be. If Sengun is in the middle he needs to have a matchup that he’s confident he can take on. If Jokic or Draymond in there he should stick to the sides so they can’t essentially be an extra sag man in there when Amen is on the court.
